The Philadelphia Flyers traveled up to Detroit, Michigan, to take on the Red Wings for the last time in the regular season. Dan Vladar got the start in net, and there were no changes to the lineup. In what was another huge game for the Flyers, they couldn’t stay out of the box, and special teams proved to be very costly in a six-to-three loss. Vladar would get pulled, and Dylan Larkin collected a hat trick. The orange and black fell to 40-27-12 on the season.

The Red Wings got the game’s first power play just 2:07 into the first period as Matvei Michkov was called for roughing. They’d capitalize courtesy of Alex DeBrincat. He took a pass from Lucas Raymond and popped a backhander over Vladar from in tight. 1-0 Red Wings. Raymond and Moritz Seider tallied assists.

The Flyers went on their first power play at the 2:45 mark of the first as Justin Faulk got called for interference. They had plenty of good scoring chances as Gibson had to make big saves on Porter Martone, Tyson Foerster, and Jamie Drysdale. The Red Wings were able to clear the puck down a few times as well.

Foerster was called for holding the stick at the 9:57 mark of the first period, which gave the Red Wings their second power play. The Flyers did a great job of blocking shots and clearing the puck when given the opportunity. The Red Wings didn’t record any shots on net.

Christian Dvorak tied the game up at one for the Flyers at the 13:24 mark of the first. He deflected Martone’s shot from the blue line through the legs of Red Wings goaltender John Gibson. Martone and Travis Konecny picked up assists.

The Flyers went on their second power play at the 18:26 mark of the first period as Ben Chiarot got called for holding the stick. Martone ended up missing a shot wide, and Gibson made a save on Foerster before the period ended. Unfortunately, the power play came to an end as Rasmus Ristolainen and Raymond were called for roughing and Martone for cross-checking after the horn went off. This caused the game to go to four-on-four, and then Detroit would get a power play.

15 seconds into the second period and on the four-on-four, Owen Tippett was called for goaltender interference. The Red Wings would go on a four-on-three for a handful of seconds. Seider gave Detroit a 2-1 lead on the four-on-three. He took a pass from Patrick Kane and put a slapshot past the blocker of Vladar from the right circle. Kane and Dylan Larkin were given assists.

The Red Wings took a 3-1 lead at the 1:50 mark of the second period thanks to Larkin. He took a pass from Kane, took the puck to the net, and put a wrist shot off the far post and in past Vladar. This was on the power play that came after the two-man advantage. Assists went to Kane and Seider.

Seider got called for tripping at the 4:15 mark of the second. This gave the Flyers their third power play. Trevor Zegras had a shot blocked, and Andrew Copp had a chance while shorthanded, but Vladar made the save. The Flyers would get a two-man advantage as Faulk was called for tripping. They struggled to get anything going on the power play. Gibson came up with a save on Konecny, and Drysdale had a shot blocked.

Larkin scored a shorthanded goal to give the Red Wings a 4-1 lead while on the Flyers power play. Foerster tried to make a pass to Konecny in the offensive zone, but turned it over. Larkin then took the puck down the ice and finished with a snapshot under the blocker of Vladar. Albert Johansson received the lone assist.

Vladar was pulled after Detroit’s fourth goal. Sam Ersson came on in replacement.

The Flyers went on their fifth power play at the 8:58 mark of the second period as Faulk was called for hooking. They’d capitalize on this one courtesy of Martone. Zegras’ pass went off the pad of Gibson and stayed in the blue paint. Martone then put a wrist shot into a wide-open net. Zegras and Drysdale collected assists.

Cam Talbot replaced Gibson in net. Gibson got run over by Tippett on the goaltender interference penalty.

The Red Wings took a 5-2 lead at the 7:01 mark of the third period. Simon Edvinsson found Kane at the back post, and he put a snapshot past the glove of Ersson. Edvinsson and Seider tallied assists.

The game went to four-on-four at the 10:20 mark of the third as Zegras got called for elbowing and Johansson for roughing. Larkin collected a hat-trick as he gave the Red Wings a 6-2 lead. He went on a two-on-one with Seider and put a snapshot past the glove of Ersson from the left circle. Seider and Raymond picked up assists.

The Flyers received their sixth man advantage at the 13:15 mark of the third period as Edvinsson was called for high-sticking. Talbot only had to make a save on Ristolainen, and that’s about it. There were a few giveaways that led to clears. Marco Kasper had a chance while shorthanded, but Ersson made the glove save.

Luke Glendening scored late in the game to make the score 6-3 in favor of the Red Wings. He tipped in Denver Barkey’s pass past the blocker of Talbot. Barkey and Sean Couturier were given assists.

Flyers went one for six on the power play and only killed off one of four Red Wings’ man-advantages.

Vladar saved 4 of 8 shots, giving him a .500 save percentage. Ersson saved 12 of 14 shots in replacement.
