The Philadelphia Flyers took on the Vegas Golden Knights Thursday night in game five of their six-game homestand. Dan Vladar got the start in net, and there were no lineup changes. They stayed up to speed with the Knights all game long, and Vladar made some big saves to keep his team in it. The Flyers went to overtime for the 11th time this season, and it unfortunately didn’t result in a victory. Travis Konecny had a crucial turnover, and the Knights capitalized. The orange and black dropped to 16-9-4 on the season.

Zach Whitecloud gave the Knights a 1-0 lead at the 6:07 mark of the first period. Ivan Barbashev fed him with a pass as he was driving the net, and Whitecloud went forehand-backhand on Vladar. Barbashev and Braeden Bowman tallied assists.
The Flyers tied the game at one at the 16:11 mark of the first, courtesy of Trevor Zegras. Travis Sanheim made a great pass from the high slot down to Zegras, who was sitting at the left circle. Zegras then put a snapshot into a wide-open net. Sanheim and Christian Dvorak picked up assists.
Barbashev was called for tripping at the 19:43 mark of the first period, which gave the Flyers the game’s first power play. They didn’t record any shots on net, and the Golden Knights did a nice job of blocking shots and clearing the puck down the ice.
The Golden Knights got their first power play at the 3:34 mark of the second period as Carl Grundstrom got called for holding. Noah Cates had a chance while shorthanded, and the Flyers did a great job of getting into shooting lanes to block shots. No shots on goal were recorded.
The Flyers got caught with too many men on the ice at the 12:05 mark of the second. This gave the Golden Knights their second power play. Matvei Michkov served the penalty. The Golden Knights capitalized on the opportunity thanks to Mark Stone. Vladar made the initial save on Pavel Dorofeyev but allowed a rebound. Stone got the rebound and put a wrist shot through Vladar’s legs. Dorofeyev and Jack Eichel were given assists. This gave the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead.

Dorofeyev was called for tripping at the 13:32 mark of the second period, which gave the Flyers their second power play. Golden Knights goaltender Akira Schmid had to make a big save on Konecny, and that’s it. The Flyers had trouble setting up, and the Golden Knights’ penalty kill was aggressive.
Noah Juulsen tied the game up at two for the Flyers at the 16:08 mark of the second. Dvorak, from the high slot, made a pass to Juulsen at the right circle, and he put a slap shot past the blocker of Schmid. Assists were given to Dvorak and Grundstrom.
The Flyers went on their third power play at the 15:12 mark of the third period as Brett Howden got called for elbowing. This was another power play where the Flyers recorded no shots on net. They hit the outside of the post a few times, and Bobby Brink did a nice job breaking up a two-on-one for the Golden Knights.
No one else scored in regulation, so the game went to overtime. Konecny turned the puck over to Eichel, and the Golden Knights capitalized on it. Eichel found Stone driving to the net, and Stone put a wrist shot past the glove of Vladar. Eichel received the only assist. The Golden Knights would win three-two.
Flyers went zero for three on the power play and killed off one of the two Golden Knights’ man advantages.
Vladar saved 18 of 21 shots, giving him a .857 save percentage.
