The Philadelphia Flyers took on Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday night at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario. Dan Vladar got the start in net. Travis Konecny was out due to injury, so Denver Barkey rejoined the lineup. The Flyers continued to pick up valuable points in a three-to-two shootout victory over the Maple Leafs. Vladar, again, kept his team in the game all night long. Trevor Zegras and Matvei Michkov sealed the deal for the Flyers with insane moves. The orange and black improved to 28-21-11 on the season.

The Flyers got the game’s first power play at the 3:36 mark of the first period as Easton Cowan was called for tripping. Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz ended up making saves on Barkey, Cam York, and Rasmus Ristolainen. Steven Lorentz had a chance while shorthanded, but Vladar made the save.

Nicolas Roy got called for interference at the 12:01 mark of the first, which gave the Flyers their second power play. Unfortunately, the Flyers got caught with too many men with 1:01 left. This made the game go to four-on-four, then the Maple Leafs would get an abbreviated power play. Michkov served the penalty. Stolarz made saves on Owen Tippett and Bobby Brink before the penalty. Nothing worth noting happened on the four-on-four. Vladar continued to be sharp in net as he made tough saves of Matthew Knies and Morgan Rielly.

The Maple Leafs took a 1-0 lead at the 15:22 mark of the first period courtesy of Dakota Joshua. He took a backhanded pass from Matias Maccelli and put a wrist shot past Vladar from the left circle. Maccelli received the lone assist.

The Flyers went on their third power play at the 16:47 mark of the first as Brandon Carlo was called for holding. They’d capitalize on this opportunity thanks to Christian Dvorak. Stolarz made the initial save on Noah Cates, but a few Flyers kept hacking away at the puck. The puck ultimately slid through the legs of Stolarz and over the goal line. This tied the game up at one. Cates and Barkey tallied assists.

Ristolainen got called for holding just 40 seconds into the third period. This gave the Maple Leafs their second power play. The Flyers did a great job stealing pucks and breaking up passes. Vladar only had to make one save on Rielly. Cates had a chance while shorthanded, but rang his shot off the post.

Cates gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead at the 14:42 mark of the third. Brink, from the side of the net, found Cates at the left circle, and he put a wrist shot over the blocker of Stolarz. Brink was given the only assist.

The Maple Leafs went on their third power play at the 15:37 mark of the third period as Barkey was called for tripping. William Nylander took a cross-ice pass from John Tavares and put a snapshot past the glove of Vladar from the left circle. Tavares and Knies picked up assists.

No one else scored in regulation, so the game went to overtime. Both teams had high-scoring chances in their respective offensive zones, but the goaltenders had all the answers.

The game then went to a shoot-out. The Flyers sent out Michkov and Zegras, and the Maple Leafs sent out Nylander, Matthews, and Max Domi. Nylander, Michkov, and Zegras were the ones to score, giving the Flyers the three-two victory.

Flyers went one for three on the power play and killed off two of the three Maple Leafs’ man advantages.

Vladar saved 29 of 31 shots, giving him a .935 save percentage.
