The Philadelphia Flyers took on the Chicago Blackhawks at the Xfinity Mobile Arena on Thursday night with two huge points up for grabs. Sam Ersson got the start in net. Emil Andrae jumped in on defense with Noah Juulsen becoming a healthy scratch. The Flyers grabbed two valuable points in a dominant five-to-one victory. They scored two goals early in the first and never looked back. Ersson made huge saves throughout the night to keep the Flyers in front. The orange and black improved to 35-24-12 on the season.

Alex Bump gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead just 48 seconds into the game. Blackhawks goaltender Spencer Knight turned the puck over to Christian Dvorak behind the net. Dvorak then found Bump in the low slot, and he put a snapshot into a wide-open net. Dvorak received the lone assist.
Sean Couturier made the score 2-0 Flyers at the 2:33 mark of the first period. Andre Burakovsky turned the puck over to Luke Glendening. Couturier then deflected Glendening’s pass to him past the blocker of Knight. Glendening was given the only assist.
The Flyers got the game’s first power play at the 11:40 mark of the first as Louis Crevier was called for interference. Ersson made a huge blocker save on Ilya Mikheyev while shorthanded, and Knight only had to make one save on Dvorak. The aggressive penalty killing by the Blackhawks gave the Flyers lots of trouble.
Sacha Boisvert got called for hooking at the 17:42 mark of the first period, which gave the Flyers their second power play. The Blackhawks penalty kill continued to be aggressive and made it difficult for the Flyers to set up in the offensive zone. Rasmus Ristolainen missed on a shot wide as well, and that’s it.
However, with 53 seconds remaining on the power play, Matvei Michkov was called for hooking. This made the game go to four-on-four, and then the Blackhawks would get an abbreviated power play. As the abbreviated power play got underway, Artyom Levshunov got called for high-sticking. This made play go back to four-on-four, and then the Flyers would get an abbreviated power play.

The Flyers wouldn’t end up getting that abbreviated power play as Ristolainen was called for boarding just 38 seconds into the second period. The Blackhawks went on a four-on-three, then play went to four-on-four, and finally, the Blackhawks would get a power play. Nothing worth noting happened on any of these. Ersson made a save on Connor Bedard, Knight made a save on Owen Tippett, and the Flyers played a game of keep away on the abbreviated power play.
Denver Barkey gave the Flyers a 3-0 lead at the 5:14 mark of the second. Knight made the initial save on Trevor Zegras but allowed a rebound. Barkey got to the rebound and put a snapshot into a wide-open net. Zegras and Tippett tallied assists.
The Blackhawks went on their third power play at the 6:36 mark of the second period as Zegras got called for slashing. They didn’t record any shots on net, and the Flyers were able to clear the puck down the ice multiple times.
Bedard got the Blackhawks on the board at the 11:11 mark of the second. He took a wraparound pass from Anton Frondell and put a snapshot over the glove of Ersson. 3-1 Flyers. Frondell and Crevier picked up assists.
The Flyers went up 4-1 at the 12:41 mark of the second period courtesy of Noah Cates. He took a pass from Matvei Michkov, who was along the boards, and went in all alone on Knight. He finished with a backhander past Knight’s glove. Michkov and Bump were given assists.
Dvorak joined in on the scoring party and made the score 5-1 Flyers at the 19:35 mark of the second. He deflected Tippett’s pass past the right skate of Knight. Assists were given to Tippett and Cates.
Frondell was called for hooking at the 10:49 mark of the third period. This gave the Flyers their fourth power play. Knight ended up making saves on Jamie Drysdale and Zegas, and the Blackhawks penalty kill continued to be aggressive.
Flyers went zero for four on the power play and killed off all three of the Blackhawks man advantages.
Ersson saved 25 of 26 shots, giving him a .962 save percentage.
