The Philadelphia Flyers wrapped up a set of back-to-back games with a game in New York against the Islanders. Ivan Fedotov made his first start in net since the shoot-out loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 14. They’d lose their second straight game with a 3-1 loss. Defensive breakdowns, bad line changes, and too many odd-man rushes led to the defeat. The Flyers are back at hockey .500 at 22-22-6.

The Islanders got the game’s first power play at the 6:30 mark of the first period as Travis Konecny was called for roughing. Cam York had taken a big hit from Alexander Romanov and Konecny came in to defend him. The Flyers did a great job not allowing them to get set up in the zone or record a shot on net.

Tyson Foerster gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead at the 14:14 mark of the first period. He went on a 2 on 1 with Morgan Frost. Konecny set him up with a pass from the defensive one and off he went. Foerster’s wrist shot went under the blocker of Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin. Konecny and Erik Johnson collected assists.

Anthony Duclair tied the game up at one at the 17:08 mark of the first period. Brock Nelson set him up with a cross-ice pass and Duclair’s snap shot beat the blocker of Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov. Nelson and Kyle Palmieri tallied assists.

55 seconds later, Bo Horvat gave the Islanders a 2-1 lead at the 18:03 mark of the first period. He went on a 2 on 1 with Matt Barzal. Barzal passed the puck to the middle and Horvat put a wrist shot past the blocker of Fedotov. Barzal and Romanov received assists.

The Flyers got their first power play at the 10:10 mark of the second period as Nelson got called for slashing. They spent a good majority of the time in the offensive zone but didn’t record any shots on net.

The Islanders took a 3-1 lead at the 13:56 mark of the second period courtesy of Nelson. Adam Pelech passed the puck along the boards to Nelson who then put a wrist shot past the glove of Fedotov. This is one he should have saved. Pelech and Ryan Pulock collected assists.

Sean Couturier was called for cross-checking at the 16:31 mark of the second period, which gave the Islanders their second power play. They managed to get a few shots on net but the Flyers did a good job of clearing the puck when given the opportunity.

Rasmus Ristolainen was called for interference at the 7:13 mark of the third period, which gave the Islanders their third powerplay. Fedotov had to make a few big saves and the Flyers again did a nice job clearing the puck when given the opportunity.

The Flyers pulled Fedotov with 3:08 remaining in the third period in favor of the extra attacker and being down by two. Unfortunately, they couldn’t get any more pucks past Sorokin.

The Flyers went 0 for 1 on the power play but killed off all three Islanders’ man-advantages.

Fedotov struggled a bit in net tonight as the third goal he allowed was one he should have had. He saved 24 of 27 shots, giving him a .889 save percentage.
