The Philadelphia Flyers played their last game of a five-game homestand and a set of back-to-back games Sunday night with a matchup against the Calgary Flames. Aleksei Kolosov got his first start of the season in net, and Sean Couturier returned to the lineup after getting hit in the elbow by a shot in the game against Nashville. Former Flyers Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee returned to Philadelphia for the first time since being traded last season. Travis Konecny scored the only goal, and the Flyers’ passes just weren’t crisp. They’d get swept over the weekend and fall to 6-5-1 on the season.

The Flames got the game’s first power play at the 18:20 mark of the first period as Bobby Brink was called for hooking. Kolosov had to make a few tricky saves, and Christian Dvorak had a scoring chance while shorthanded but missed the net wide. With 22 seconds remaining, Rasmus Andersson got called for hooking. This made the play go to four-on-four, and then the Flyers got an abbreviated power play.

The Flyers only managed to get one shot on net on their abbreviated power play, and the Flames did their job of clearing the puck when given the opportunity.

Jonathan Huberdeau gave the Flames a 1-0 lead at the 2:15 mark of the second period. He put a wrist shot from above the right circle over the blocker of Kolosov. Kolosov was heavily screened in front. Yegor Sharangovich and Brayden Pachal picked up assists.

Owen Tippett was called for slashing at the 13:20 mark of the second, which gave the Flames their second power play. The Flames rang a puck off the crossbar, but the Flyers did a nice job of blocking shots and clearing the puck.

Huberdeau scored his second of the game at the 7:06 mark of the third period to give the Flames a 2-0 lead. He deflected MacKenzie Weegar’s wrist shot from the blue line past Kolosov. This is another goal where Kolosov was screened in front. Weegar and Joel Hanley tallied assists.

The Flyers got on the board at the 14:20 mark of the third courtesy of Konecny. Noah Cates won the faceoff to him, and Konecny put a wrist shot under the glove of Flames goaltender Dustin Wolf. Cates was awarded the only assist. This made the score 2-1 Flames.

Kolosov was pulled in favor of the extra attacker with only 1:48 left in the third period as the Flyers were only down by one. However, it didn’t work. The Flyers weren’t able to get any more pucks past Wolf. The Flames held on for a two-to-one victory.

Flyers went 0 for 1 on the power play but killed off both of the Flames’ man advantages.

Kolosov saved 19 of 21 shots, giving him a .905 save percentage.
