The Philadelphia Flyers played game five of their seven-game homestand tonight against the Ottawa Senators. Ivan Fedotov got another start in net after a decent performance against the New Jersey Devils back on Sunday. Emil Andrae was inserted into the lineup, and Egor Zamula was a healthy scratch. The losing streak would continue as the Flyers would lose five to two. They couldn’t capitalize on their chances or take advantage of momentum on their side. Fedotov allowed a few soft goals, which proved to be costly. The Flyers are now 27-31-8 on the season.

Brady Tkachuk gave the Senators a 1-0 lead just 24 seconds into the first period. Claude Giroux made a nice cross-ice pass to him, and Tkachuk put a wrist shot off the mask of Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov and into the net. Giroux and Tim Stutzle collected assists.

The Senators got the game’s first power play 32 seconds into the first period as Nick Seeler was called for interference. The Flyers did a nice job of clearing the puck when given the opportunity, and Travis Konecny had a chance while shorthanded, but he had a guy on him.

Stutzle was called for holding at the 7:32 mark of the first period, which gave the Flyers their first power play. They didn’t record any shots on net, but Tyson Foerster had a few good chances in tight.

Jamie Drysdale tied the game up at one at the 3:05 mark of the second period. He took a nice touch pass by Travis Konecny and put a backhander off the glove of Senators goaltender Anton Forsberg and into the net. Konecny and Olle Lycksell tallied assists.

The Senators took a 2-1 lead at the 4:14 mark of the second period courtesy of Tyler Kleven. He kept the puck in the zone at the blue line and put a wrist shot past Fedotov. There was plenty of traffic in front, which made it hard to see. David Perron and Drake Batherson were given assists.

Rodrigo Abols tied the game up at two at the 8:45 mark of the second period. Cam York made a great pass from the side of the net to Abols, who was in the slot, and he put a wrist shot past the glove of Forsberg. York and Jakob Pelletier picked up assists.

The Flyers got their second power play at the 10:39 mark of the second period as Stutzle was called for tripping. Fedotov had to make a huge save on a 2 on 0 for the Senators, and the Flyers yet again couldn’t capitalize.

Drysdale got called for holding at the 12:47 mark of the second period, which gave the Senators their second power play. Both teams had a great scoring chance on the two-on-one, and big saves had to be made. Good sticks by Rasmus Ristolainen and Ryan Poehling led to Senator turnovers.

Michael Amadio gave the Senators a 3-2 lead at the 15:01 mark of the second period. He took the puck himself into the Flyers zone and put a wrist shot through the legs of Fedotov. Adam Gaudette and Jake Sanderson collected assists.

The Senators took a 4-2 lead at the 10:59 mark of the third period, thanks to Dylan Cozens. Poehling turned the puck over in the defensive zone, and Cozens put a wrist shot past the blocker of Fedotov. The goal was unassisted.

The Flyers pulled Fedotov with 3:35 left in the third period in favor of the extra attacker while being down by two. It backfired as Shane Pinto scored an empty-net goal at the 19:25 mark of the third period. Konecny swatted at the puck to try and keep it in the offensive zone but missed. This allowed Amadio to get the puck and send it to a wide-open Pinto, who then put it in the empty net. Amadio and Sanderson tallied assists.

The Flyers went zero for two on the power play but managed to kill off both Senators’ man advantages.

Fedotov had a tough outing in net as he allowed a few soft goals. He saved 19 of 23 shots, giving him a .826 save percentage.
