It’s time for another set of back-to-back games for the Philadelphia Flyers. They kicked it off with an afternoon game against the Dallas Stars. Ivan Fedotov started in net and Garnet Hathaway and Rasmus Ristolainen remained out with injuries. Fedotov was pulled after the first period, but Ersson helped shut the door in regulation. The Flyers scored two in the second to tie it but lost quickly in overtime. They’re now 28-34-9 on the season.

Thomas Harley gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at the 6:27 mark of the first period. Colin Blackwell set him up with a nice pass to the slot and Harley put a snapshot past the blocker of Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov. Blackwell and Sam Steel collected assists. This was on their first shot of the game.
The Stars took a 2-0 lead at the 8:59 mark of the first period courtesy of Esa Lindell. Mikael Granlund made a nice pass to him to the slot and Lindell put a snapshot low glove of Fedotov. This was on their second shot of the game. Granlund and Matt Duchene tallied assists.
The Flyers got the game’s first power play at the 15:11 mark of the first period as Ilya Lyubushkin was called for roughing and slashing and Travis Konecny for slashing. They didn’t record any shots on net and the Stars had a few good scoring chances while shorthanded. The Stars also did a nice job of clearing the puck.
Jason Robertson was called for high-sticking at the 18:40 mark of the first period, which gave the Flyers their second power play. They only had one good chance on this one as they had Olle Lycksell wide open on the right side but the pass got knocked down and cleared.
Fedotov was pulled to begin the second period. He allowed two goals on three shots. Samuel Ersson came in to replace him.
Konecny got the Flyers on the board at the 13:03 mark of the second period. Sean Couturier made a nice cross-ice pass to him and he put a snap shot off the far post and in past Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger. Matvei Michkov redirected Couturier’s pass to Konecny. This made the score 2-1 Stars. Michkov and Couturier picked up assists.
The Stars got their first power play at the 13:45 mark of the second period as Nick Seller was called for delay of game (puck over glass). The Flyers did a great job clearing the puck but the Stars came close with a nice tip-in chance.
Bobby Brink got called for high-sticking at the 16:07 mark of the second period, which gave the Stars their second power play. Both teams had chances on this power play. The Flyers had a two on one but the pass was knocked down and Duchene has Ersson down but missed the shot high.
Ryan Poehling tied the game up at two at the 18:48 mark of the second period. Michkov took a hit to make the pass to him and Poehling put a snapshot over the blocker of Oettinger. Michkov and Tyson Foerster were given assists.
The Stars got their third power play at the 19:51 mark of the second period as Konecny was called for hooking. The Flyers did a nice job getting into shooting lanes and clearing the puck when given the oppotunity.
Owen Tippett was called for tripping at the 3:13 mark of the third period, which gave the Stars their fourth power play. With 32 seconds remaining, Matt Dumba was called for interference. This made it four-on-four and then the Flyers got their fourth power play. Oettinger had to make two big saves in tight on Foerster and Jamie Drysdale on the power play.

Neither team would score again in regulation so the game would go to overtime. Nine seconds into the overtime period, the Stars would score to win it. Ersson came out to try to pass the puck to Konecny but Robertson stole it, passed to Harley who put a backhander through the legs of Ersson. Robertson picked up the only assist.
The Flyers went zero for three on the power play but managed to kill off all four Stars man advantages.
Fedotov made one of three saves before being pulled to start the second period. Ersson, in relief, was solid in net. He saved 15 of 16 shots, giving him a .938 save percentage.
