The Philadelphia Flyers took on the Toronto Maple Leafs Thursday night in game two of their four-game homestand. Dan Vladar got the start in net. Jamie Drysdale and Bobby Brink remained out after getting hurt in their last game. Matvei Michkov and Noah Juulsen were inserted into the lineup as their replacements. They’d hold on to a one-zero lead late in the third period until former Flyer Scott Laughton tied things up and eventually sent the game to overtime. Easton Cowan would seal the deal for Toronto. The orange and black fell to 22-12-8 on the season.

The Flyers got the game’s first power play at the 18:35 mark of the first period as Troy Stecher was called for slashing. They didn’t record any shots on net, and the Maple Leafs were able to clear the puck down the ice multiple times.
Travis Konecny gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead just 55 seconds into the second period. Christian Dvorak, from just below the left circle, fed Konecny with a pass to the top of the left circle, and he put a snapshot over the blocker of Maple Leafs goaltender Dennis Hildeby. Dvorak and Rasmus Ristolainen tallied assists.
The Maple Leafs got their first power play at the 8:40 mark of the second as Emil Andrae got called for holding. The Flyers did a great job clearing the puck down the ice to waste time, and Vladar only had to make one save on Max Domi.
Konecny was called for slashing at the 11:31 mark of the second period, which gave the Maple Leafs their second power play. The Flyers did a nice job of breaking up passes in the offensive zone and clearing the puck. Vladar came up with a huge save on Oliver Ekman-Larsson towards the end.
The Flyers got their second power play at the 10:59 mark of the third period as Matthew Knies got called for slashing. They’d get a two-man advantage as Stecher was called for tripping with 52 seconds remaining on the original power play. They had plenty of chances in the offensive zone, but just couldn’t get anything past Hildeby. The Maple Leafs were able to clear the puck down the ice multiple times as well.

Laughton, however, tied the game up at one while shorthanded at the 14:04 mark of the third. He used Ristolainen as a screen in front and put a wrist shot over the blocker of Vladar. The goal was unassisted.
No one else scored in regulation, so the game went to overtime. Both teams had chances off the odd-man rush, but the Maple Leafs ended up cashing in on a two-on-one rush at the 2:48 mark of the overtime period. John Tavares went on a two-on-one with Easton Cowan. Cowan took a pass from Tavares and put a wrist shot past the glove of Vladar. Tavares received the lone assist. The Maple Leafs took the two-one victory.
Flyers went zero for three on the power play and killed off both of the Maple Leafs’ man advantages.
Vladar saved 21 of 23 shots, giving him a .913 save percentage.
