The Philadelphia Flyers traveled to Dallas, Texas, to take on the Stars in their second game of a back-to-back Saturday night. Dan Vladar got the start in net, and Nikita Grebenkin jumped into the lineup. Nicolas Deslauriers was a healthy scratch. This was a game to forget. Jason Robertson recorded a natural hat trick and Christian Dvorak scored the only goal. Vladar had a rough night in net, but didn’t get much help either. The orange and black dropped to 9-6-3 on the season.
The Stars took a 1-0 lead at the 3:48 mark of the first period. Lian Bichsel’s wrist shot from the blue line went off of Bobby Brink in front and past Vladar. Vladar was heavily screened in front. Alexander Petrovich and Justin Hryckowian were given assists.
Brink was called for interference at the 16:47 mark of the first, which gave the Stars the game’s first power play. The Flyers did a nice job of blocking shots and clearing the puck down the ice. The Stars recorded three shots on net, but Vladar had all the answers.
Robertson gave the Stars a 2-0 lead at the 11:39 mark of the second period. Tyler Seguin lost the puck in front of the net, but it traveled straight to Robertson. Robertson then put a backhander just past the left skate of Vladar. Seguin and Roope Hintz collected assists.
The Stars jumped out to a 3-0 lead at the 17:02 mark of the second thanks to Robertson. Hintz fed him with a pass to the left circle, and Robertson put a wrist shot past the glove of Vladar. Hintz and Esa Lindell picked up assists. This is his second goal of the game.
The Flyers got their first power play at the 17:20 mark of the second period as Colin Blackwell got called for high-sticking. They recorded only one shot on net and struggled to set up in the zone for a while. The Stars did their job of clearing the puck down the ice to waste time off the clock.
Tyson Foerster was called for high-sticking at the 8:33 mark of the third period. This gave the Stars their second power play. They capitalized on this opportunity as Robertson collected a natural hat trick. Hintz, from below the goal line, found Robertson in the slot. Robertson then put a wrist shot past the glove of Vladar. Assists went to Hintz and Mikko Rantanen. This made the score 4-0 Stars.
Dvorak got the Flyers on the board at the 10:57 mark of the third. He found a loose puck in front and put a backhander just past the left leg of Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger. Owen Tippett and Jamie Drysdale tallied assists.
The Stars capitalized on a bad Flyers line change at the 13:51 mark of the third period to make it 5-1. Ilya Lyubushkin made a pass up the ice to Seguin. Seguin then put a wrist shot off the far post and in past Vladar. Lyubushkin was given the only assist.
Flyers went zero for one on the power play and killed off one of the two Stars’ man advantages.
Vladar saved 23 of 28 shots, giving him a .821 save percentage.
