The Philadelphia Flyers jumped back into action Wednesday night after a few days off, and they had their hands full as Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers came into town. Dan Vladar got the start in net, and Tyson Foerster returned from injury. Carl Grundstrom was loaned back to Lehigh Valley. The Flyers had the game won in regulation, but the goal was overturned with Owen Tippett being offside. The Oilers took advantage of a turnover in overtime and sealed the deal. The orange and black dropped to 8-5-3 on the season.

The Oilers got the game’s first power play at the 13:43 mark of the first period as Nick Seeler was called for hooking. The Flyers did a nice job of clearing the puck, and Vladar had to make a few big saves from in tight. The Oilers didn’t have McDavid for the majority of it due to an equipment issue, but he came back for the end.

Evan Bouchard gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead at the 19:05 mark of the first. McDavid fed him with a pass to the high slot, and Bouchard put a one-timer past the blocker of Vladar. McDavid and Matt Savoie were given assists.

The Flyers got their first power play at the 14:38 mark of the second period as Jake Walman got called for hooking. They capitalized on this opportunity and tied the game up at one. Matvei Michkov took a pass from Cam York and put a snapshot past the glove of Oilers goaltender Stuart Skinner from the top of the right circle. Skinner was heavily screened in front. York and Travis Konecny picked up assists.

Noah Cates was called for high-sticking just three seconds into the third period, which gave the Oilers their second power play. The Oilers didn’t record any shots on net, but Bouchard fanned on a shot in a dangerous area. The Flyers did a great job of getting their sticks in passing lanes to break up chances.

The Flyers got their second power play of the game at the 4:12 mark of the third as Ty Emberson got called for holding. Nothing much happened on this one. Skinner made a glove save on Tyson Foerster, and that’s it. The Oilers did their job of clearing pucks to waste time off the clock.

Mattias Janmark was called for unsportsmanlike conduct, Trent Frederic for goaltender interference, and Vladar for roughing at the 14:25 mark of the third period. This gave the Flyers their third power play. They didn’t capitalize again, but Skinner had to come up with some huge saves to keep the game tied.

Konecny had what would have been the go-ahead goal with 23.5 remaining in the third, but it was disallowed due to Tippett being offside on the far left side. The game then went to overtime.

Jack Roslovic won the game for the Oilers at the 1:19 mark of the overtime period. York misplayed the puck and tripped, which allowed him and Savoie to go on a two-on-zero. Savoie fed him with a pass, and Roslovic lifted a wrist shot over the blocker of Vladar. Savoie collected the only assist. This gave the Oilers a 2-1 victory.

Flyers went one for three on the power play but killed off both of the Oilers’ man advantages.

Vladar saved 29 of 31 shots, giving him a .935 save percentage.
