The Philadelphia Flyers started a four-game road trip Monday night, and they kicked it off with a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Sam Ersson got the start in net, and there were no changes to the lineup. An effortless showing led to the Flyers getting shutout three-zero. They had their chances, but just couldn’t produce anything. The orange and black dropped to 11-7-3 on the season.

Nicolas Deslauriers and Curtis Douglas dropped the gloves at the 9:21 mark of the first period. Both players landed some punches in the spirited fight, but Deslauriers ultimately took Douglas down.
The Lightning took a 1-0 lead at the 15:34 mark of the first courtesy of Brandon Hagel. Hagel deflected Emil Lilleberg’s slapshot from the blue line past the glove of Ersson. Lilleberg and Nikita Kucherov tallied assists.
Anthony Cirelli gave the Lightning a 2-0 lead at the 16:00 mark of the second period. He tipped in Hagel’s pass past the glove of Ersson. The play happened right in front of the net. Hagel and Kucherov picked up assists.
The Flyers got the game’s first power play at the 7:00 mark of the third period as Charle-Edouard D’Astous was called for high-sticking. It was short-lived, however, as 35 seconds in, Tyson Foerster got called for slashing. This made it four-on-four, and then the Lightning got an abbreviated power play. Owen Tippett rang a puck off the post, and Cirelli fanned on a shot in a dangerous area.

Egor Zamula was called for cross-checking at the 16:06 mark of the third, which gave the Lightning their second power play. Ersson had to make a big save on Darren Raddysh, and the Flyers did a nice job of clearing the puck when given the opportunity.
Ersson was pulled with 1:43 left in the game in favor of the extra attacker, with the team down by two. It backfired as Hagel scored his second of the game at the 19:45 mark of the third period. He took a pass from Kucherov at center ice and put a wrist shot into the empty net. This gave the Lightning a 3-0 lead. Assists went to Kucherov and Cirelli.
Flyers went zero for one on the power play but killed off both of the Lightning’s man advantages.
Ersson saved 15 of 17 shots, giving him a .882 save percentage.
