The Philadelphia Flyers took on the Los Angeles Kings at the Xfinity Mobile Arena in their last game in the month of January. Dan Vladar got the start in net, and there were no changes to the lineup. They’d fail to checkmate the Kings and lose three-two in overtime. The Flyers came out slow and disoriented, but picked it up in the second and third periods. Travis Konecny missed on a breakaway chance in overtime and the Kings capitalized right after. The orange and black fell to 24-20-10 on the season.

Adrian Kempe gave the Kings a 1-0 lead just 3:10 into the first period. Alex Laferriere, from the left circle, fed Kempe with a pass to the slot, and he put a snapshot under the blocker of Vladar. Laferriere and Corey Perry tallied assists.
The Kings went up 2-0 at the 7:08 mark of the first courtesy of Kempe. Perry, from below the goal line, found Kempe in the slot, and he put a snapshot past the glove of Vladar. Perry received the lone assist.
The Flyers got caught with too many men on the ice at the 12:33 mark of the first period. This gave the Kings the game’s first power play. Matvei Michkov served the penalty. Vladar came up with huge saves on Andrei Kuzmenko and Drew Doughty. Konecny had a chance while shorthanded, but Brandt Clarke blocked his shot.

Sean Couturier got called for holding at the 14:59 mark of the first, which gave the Kings their second power play. The Flyers did a great job of stealing pucks and clearing down the ice. Owen Tippett had a chance while shorthanded but missed wide.
The Flyers went on their first power play at the 19:12 mark of the first period as Doughty was called for cross-checking. They’d capitalize on the opportunity thanks to Trevor Zegras. Konecny made a cross-ice pass to Bobby Brink. Brink then passed the puck to Zegras, who was just below the right circle. Zegras finished with a wrist shot into a wide-open net. 2-1 Kings. Brink and Konecny picked up assists.
Cody Ceci got called for delay of game (puck over glass) at the 6:41 mark of the second period. This gave the Flyers their second power play. They had trouble setting up in the offensive zone as the Kings penalty kill was very aggressive. No shots on goal were recorded.
Konecny tied the game up at two just 25 seconds into the third period. He deflected Rasmus Ristolainen’s shot from the blue line through the legs of Kings goaltender Darcy Kuemper. Ristolainen and Nikita Grebenkin were given assists.
No one else scored in regulation, so the game went to overtime. Konecny had a chance on a breakaway, but his shot went off the post. Quinton Byfield then won the game for the Kings. He took a pass from Kempe and put a snapshot over the blocker of Vladar from the right circle. Assists went to Kempe and Doughty.
Flyers went one for two on the power play and killed off both of the Kings’ man advantages.
Vladar saved 18 of 21 shots, giving him a .857 save percentage.
