The Philadelphia Flyers ended their four-game homestand with a matchup against the Seattle Kraken back on Oct. 20. Dan Vladar got starts in consecutive games and he, again, put on a solid performance. The floodgates opened as the Flyers put up five goals that led them to two straight victories. They’d improve to 3-2-1 on the early season.

The Flyers got the games first powerplay at the 4:40 mark of the first period as Adam Larsson was called for hooking. It was short-lived, however, as Cam York got called for tripping 24 seconds later. This made it four-on-four. No goal was scored but both teams had a few good chances.

Jordan Eberle gave the Kraken a 1-0 lead at the 7:16 mark of the first. He deflected Cale Fleury’s wrist shot from the blue line past a screened Vladar. Fleury and Berkly Catton picked up assists.

Owen Tippett tied the game up at one for the Flyers at the 9:56 mark of the first period. Nick Seeler’s pass went off of a Kraken’s stick and straight to Tippett. Tippett then put a wrist shot into a wide-open net. Seeler and Sean Couturier were awarded assists.

The Flyers got their second powerplay of the game at the 11:26 mark of the first as Josh Mahura was called for high-sticking. They’d capitalize on this opportunity as Tyson Foerster ripped a snapshot from the right circle over the glove of Kraken’s goaltender Joey Daccord at the 13:19 mark. Bobby Brink and York tallied assists. This gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead.

Nikita Grebenkin and Fleury dropped the gloves after Fleury made a huge hit of Garnet Hathaway. They both got five each for fighting, but Grebenkin also got a game misconduct and instigator penalty. This gave the Kraken their second powerplay of the night. Vladar stood his ground in net and the Flyers did a great job of clearing the puck down the ice.

Travis Konecny scored his first goal of the season at the 4:59 mark of the second period. He tipped-in Egor Zamula’s pass into a wide-open net as Daccord was out of position. Zamula and Matvei Michkov received assists. This made the score 3-1 Flyers.

The Flyers got their third powerplay at the 5:13 mark of the second as John Hayden got called for roughing. They capitalized yet again as Noah Cates deflected York’s shot from the point past Daccord. York and Trevor Zegras picked up assists. This gave the Flyers a 4-1 lead.

The Kraken got their third powerplay at the 8:33 mark of the second period as Jamie Drysdale was called for hooking. Matty Beniers found the puck in a scrum and passed it to Jani Nyman who then put a wrist shot past the glove of Vladar. This got the Kraken within two, 4-2. Beniers and Chandler Stephenson tallied assists.

Tippett scored his second of the game at the 15:40 mark of the second to give the Flyers a 5-2 lead. He received a pass from Couturier and put a wrist shot past Daccord at a difficult angle. Couturier and York were given assists.

Travis Sanheim got called for cross-checking at the 18:39 mark which gave the Kraken their fourth powerplay. The Flyers did a nice job of blocking shots and Vladar only had to make a few saves.

Konecny dropped the gloves with Ryan Lindgren at the 10:50 mark of the third period. This was after Tippett made a big hit and the Kraken went after him. They both got five minutes for fighting but plus two to Lindgren for instigating. This gave the Flyers their fourth powerplay.

Four seconds into the powerplay, Couturier was called for tripping. This made it four-on-four and then an abbreviated powerplay for the Kraken. No goals were scored.

The Kraken got their sixth powerplay at the 14:41 mark of the third period as Jett Luchanko was called for holding. The Flyers, again, did a nice job clearing the puck and Vladar stood his ground in net.

The Flyers went two for four on the powerplay and killed off five of the six Kraken man advantages.

Vladar saved 21 of 23 shots, giving him a .913 save percentage.
