The Philadelphia Flyers returned to action Thursday night after a four-day break and faced off against the St. Louis Blues at the Xfinity Mobile Arena. Dan Vladar got the start in net, and Nicolas Deslauriers drew into the lineup with Nikita Grebenkin being a healthy scratch. The Flyers stole two points in comeback fashion as they fell behind two goals early in the first. Travis Sanheim’s goal in overtime sealed the deal after Vladar made three huge saves in the overtime period. The orange and black improved to 10-6-3 on the season.

Justin Faulk gave the Blues a 1-0 lead at the 5:31 mark of the first period. He received a pass from Oskar Sundqvist to the blue line and put a slapshot over the blocker of Vladar, who was slightly screened in front. Sundqvist and Nathan Walker tallied assists.

The Flyers got the game’s first power play at the 6:58 mark of the first as Colton Parayko was called for hooking. They spent the majority of the time in the offensive zone but failed to capitalise. Travis Konecny gave up a great shot chance in the slot, and Hofer only had to make one save.

Trevor Zegras got called for hooking at the 11:02 mark of the first period, which gave the Blues their first power play. Jake Neighbours’ pass went through the legs of Nick Seeler and straight to Faulk, who was at the top of the right circle. Faulk then put a snapshot past the blocker of Vladar. Neighbours and Jordan Kyrou received assists. This gave the Blues a 2-0 lead.

Rodrigo Abols got the Flyers on the board with his first goal of the season at the 17:57 mark of the second period. Owen Tippett, from below the goal line, found Abols in the low slot, and he put a snapshot past the blocker of Blues goaltender Joel Hofer. This made the score 2-1 in favour of the Blues. Tippett and Zegras picked up assists.

The Blues got their second power play at the 18:47 mark of the second as Emil Andrae got called for tripping. They didn’t capitalise on this opportunity, as the Flyers did a great job of stealing and clearing pucks down the ice.

Pius Suter was called for tripping at the 7:06 mark of the third period, which gave the Flyers their second power play. They, again, couldn’t capitalise but came very close. Zegras rang a puck off the crossbar, and then one shot went off the glove of Hofer and then off the left post.

The Flyers tied the game up at two at the 11:49 mark of the third courtesy of Tyson Foerster. Andrae fed him with a pass to the top of the right circle, and Foerster put a slapshot past the blocker of Hofer. Assists went to Andrae and Travis Konecny.

No one else scored in regulation, so the game went to overtime. Vladar had to come up with three huge saves to keep the game going.

Sanheim won the game for the Flyers at the 3:51 mark of the overtime period. He went on a two-on-zero with Sean Couturier and put a snapshot past the glove of Hofer. Konecny and Couturier collected assists. This gave the Flyers a 3-2 victory.
