The Philadelphia Flyers ended their set of back-to-back games with a trip up to the windy city of Chicago to take on the Blackhawks. Ivan Fedotov got another start in net after giving up two goals on three shots yesterday afternoon. Garnet Hathaway and Rasmus Ristolainen remained out. Fedotov allowed seven goals and the Flyers continued to fail to capitalize on the power play. It was back and forth for a while, but the Blackhawks eventually took over. The Flyers fall to 28-35-9 on the season.

Jamie Drysdale gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead at the 3:59 mark of the first period. His wrist shot from the blue line went off the left glove of Louis Crevier and past Blackhawks goaltender Spencer Knight. Matvei Michkov and Nick Seller collected assists.

The Blackhawks got the game’s first power play at the 4:57 mark of the first period as Egor Zamula was called for interference. They got a few good chances on this opportunity as they rang the puck off the post and Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov had to make a big save up high.

Patrick Maroon tied the game up at one at the 7:14 mark of the first period. Nick Foligno made a nice backhanded pass to him in front of the net and Maroon deflected it into a wide-open net. Foligno and Ilya Mikheyev tallied assists.

The Blackhawks took a 2-1 lead at the 8:01 mark of the first period courtesy of Joseph Veleno. Tyler Bertuzzi set him up with a pass to the left point and Veleno put a wrist shot off the far post and in behind Fedotov. Bertuzzi and Philipp Kurashev were given assists.

Travis Sanheim tied the game up at two at the 8:13 mark of the first period. Travis Konecny passed the puck to him off the faceoff and Sanheim’s wrist shot went off the blocker of Knight and into the net. Konecny and Michkov picked up assists.

Bobby Brink gave the Flyers a 3-2 lead at the 11:59 mark of the first period. Noah Cates threw the puck on net, Brink dug away at it, and it eventually went into the net past Knight on a backhander. Cates and Tyson Foerster collected assists.

The game continued to go back and forth as Connor Bedard tied the game up at three at the 18:12 mark of the first period. He took the puck of the faceoff and put a wrist shot past the glove of Fedotov. The goal was unassisted.

Bertuzzi gave the Blackhawks a 4-3 lead at the 2:37 mark of the second period. Kurashev made a nice cross-ice pass and Bertuzzi put a backhander over the glove of Fedotov. The Flyers left him too much room to operate. Kurashev and Veleno tallied assists.

Sean Couturier and Michkov were both called for tripping at the 5:28 mark of the second period. This made it five on three. The Blackhawks took advantage as Ryan Donato tipped in Teuvo Teravainen’s shot under the right arm of Fedotov. Teravainen and Bedard were given assists.

The Blackhawks got their fourth power play at the 12:23 mark of the second period as Sanheim was called for holding the stick. They yet again capitalized as Donato deflected the puck over the glove of Fedotov. Tervainen set him up with a nice pass in front of the net. This made the score 6-4 Blackhawks. Tervainen and Bertuzzi collected assists.

Bertuzzi was called for tripping at the 14:26 mark of the second period, which gave the Flyers their first power play. They couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity but Knight had to make a few big saves on Couturier in tight.

Lukas Reichel gave the Blackhawks a 7-4 lead at the 2:13 mark of the third period. Maroon made a nice pass to him in stride and Reichel’s shot from the side of the net went off the skate of Emil Andrae and into the net. Maroon and Alex Vlasic tallied assists.

The Flyers got their second power play at the 7:35 mark of the third period as Ethan Del Mastro was called for holding. They yet again didn’t capitalize but Michkov made a nice cross-ice pass to Konecny but his shot missed the net.

The Flyers went zero for two on the power play and managed to kill off two of four Blackhawk man advantages.

Fedotov struggled all afternoon in net. He saved 21 of 28 shots, giving him a .750 save percentage.

1 thought on “Game Breakdown: Fedotov’s struggles continue in 7-4 loss to Blackhawks

  1. The first goal he never saw. The second was a perfect shot over the pad under the blocker. Three deflected goals. Another one off Andres skate. The only one he had a chance on was bedards rocket top shelf. Please explain how this was on him. Fedotov’s struggles continue you say. Not sure what game you were watching but the team play in front of him was horrible. They looked tired to me, the mental focus wasn’t there today. Not sure what you expect of a goalie in a game like that.
