The Flyers may have another move in store before the season is slated to start sometime in January (As of right now the target date is January 1). What it will be is anyone’s guess, but just don’t expect a blockbuster type move. Without further delay, here are our answers to your questions.

A healthy Nolan Patrick and Oskar Lindblom could be the best offseason additions made by Flyers’ General Manager Chuck Fletcher this year. However, I do believe that Fletcher has one more move in store.

I could see Fletcher adding some physicality and grit to the lineup within the bottom six, but on the other hand I could see Fletcher trading away a defenseman with the hope of upgrading a need somewhere else within the lineup. What Fletcher will do is anyone’s guess, just don’t look for a blockbuster type deal.

Remember keep in mind young prospects like Tanner Laczynski, Linus Sandin, David KaÅ¡e, Wade Allison, Connor Bunnaman, German Rubtsov, Carsen Twarynski, and Maksim Sushko (Possibly) are knocking for a spot within the lineup. The Flyers are in a good spot if they remain ‘As Is’.

Honestly, I agree with Chuck Fletcher on this one “Good luck with finding a replacement for Nisky”. If a Matt Niskanen replacement was going to transpire, I firmly believe it would of happened already. Now I do believe Fletcher can offload a defenseman at some point, but finding a replacement for Niskanen with this flat cap is simply a wish at this point.

The problem herein lies, hockey is a spectator sport. There are a few good names left in the open market, however, due to teams hurting from Covid-19, to include the possibility of no fans to start the season this has really put a damper on some intriguing names from signing to this point.

Mike Hoffman and Anthony Duclair are waiting to get paid. Will it happen, well it remains to be seen. With the flat cap I feel at this point it’s virtually impossible to replace Niskanen unless Fletcher takes a term Defenceman, which is what Fletcher is trying to stay away from. We shall see what happens, as Fletcher has at least one more move.

@CoachVerna via Twitter– What is taking so long with resigning Myers? #Flyersmail

There are a few things that may be holding up this signing. I firmly believe the Flyers are and still might be trying to sign Philippe Myers to a long-term deal. In the event that this does not happen a bridge deal would be suffice and just a tad lower than Travis Sanheim’s deal. Myers will come in a little lower than Sanheim’s, as Myers did not play top pairing minutes like Sanheim did in his contract year. If we remember Sanheim was paired with Ivan Provorov in 2018-19 at times, whereas Myers did not do that this past season. Myers should receive at the very least a two-year deal, worth $2.5-3 million per year.

The only other thing I can think that might be holding up a deal is worth or value. Maybe Myers is looking ahead to this season and how he will be utilized. As it stands right now Myers may see top pairing minutes, thus maybe wanting a bit more money in return because of such.

At the end of the day there are many variables that could be holding up a deal, and all of this is just pure speculation. A deal will get done here, sooner rather than later. What it will be is anyone’s guess, but it will get done.

  1. Jamey, I don’t see many fans in the stands for some time. I know I have no desire to be in a space with people yelling and thus, risking the health of all within earshot. However, some teams are going to go belly up without needed fan revenue if this pandemic persists. Let’s pray for a vaccine……soon. -Gregg Lorenz, Bucks Co. Pa
