It’s official, the Flyers will draft at pick number 12 at the upcoming NHL Draft in Las Vegas. The Flyers are destined to get another good prospect, and they will at pick 12. Without further delay, here are our answers to your questions.
I actually believe obtaining, at the very least, a second line Center is on top of the agenda for the Flyers in the offseason. The organization knows just how bad the Power Play was this past season, and they will try to get it right next season. With that being said, that includes at the very least the second line Center position.
The writing is on the wall for Matvei Michkov to come to Philadelphia for the upcoming 2024-25 season. It’s just going to happen, and Danny Briere has had Michkov secretly in Voorhees once before. He will do it again, and I firmly believe that Michkov will be introduced to Philly media and fans alike at Flyers Developmental Camp in June/July. That leads me to believe that the Flyers will try to obtain at the very least, a second line Center via trade, rather than free agency. There are a handful of teams to pay attention to, with the likes of the Buffalo Sabres, Anaheim Ducks, Vegas Golden Knights, and Ottawa Senators.
For now at least and quite possibly in 2024-25, Michkov will most likely start his career playing with Morgan Frost or Sean Couturier down the middle. I would actually like them to give Michkov a shot down the middle when he comes over, especially if it’s before Training Camp, that way it gives him time to hone in on that position before the season begins.
Garnet Hathaway has been a great addition to this club, but Sean Couturier will be the Captain of the Flyers in 2024-25.
The Flyers will get a very good prospect at pick 12. With that being said, they should always draft the best player available, regardless of where the needs are for the organization positionally.
If Michkov comes over for the 2024/25 season. It is a possibility that the Flyers draft a defenseman with what would be the 12th pick. However, I believe the Flyers would move up three slots possibly l, and try to grab Sam Dickinson from the London Knights if he did drop. The Flyers top brass has been in London throughout the OHL playoffs, and trust me they have seen plenty of Dickinson. All of this is dependent on how teams draft on draft day.
The Flyers top brass, to include Flyers’ Head Coach John Tortorella knows just how bad the Flyers Power Play was this past season. The easiest way to fix the power play is to have Matvei Michkov come over to start the 2024-25 season. However, I believe the organization is looking to obtain at the very least the second line Center, and one that would immediately help with the man advantage. This offseason pay attention to clubs, such as, the Buffalo Sabres, Vegas golden Knights, the Anaheim Ducks, and the Ottawa Senators as possible trade partners.
Michkov might be able to provide a good net front presence, and he is creative with the puck. Those two areas were extremely klacking, asides from Morgan Frost. They need Jamie Drysdale to hopefully be the quarterback of the Power Play next season, but Michkov could set up with the best of them. That element with the man advantage has been missing since Jakub Voracek departed the team.
Believe it or not, Morgan Frost grew as a player this past season. He became more mature, and he handled each and every benching as good as anyone could. That speaks volume for the player himself, and Frost did improve in areas that John Tortorella wanted him to improve at.
Morgan Frost will be here in 2024-25. The Flyers top brass is very happy with Frost, and how he handled himself cordially this past season. One major weakness of the Flyers organization is at the Center position, so it’s highly unlikely they move a talent like Frost, unless it’s for another player at that position. Also, Frost is very well liked in that locker room, so the orange and black have to tread lightly with breaking that mix up.
