The Flyers are finally back folks. It was about time seeing the proud orange clad fans back to full capacity at the Wells Fargo Center this past Friday night for the home opener. Now the Flyers are preparing to not get Hak’d by former Flyers, now Head Coach of the Seattle Kraken Dave Hakstol. Without further delay, here are our answers to your questions.
A good assessment of the fourth oldest team in the NHL, the Flyers, is mid December. If the Flyers do not improve their special teams both coaches Michel Therrien and Mike Yeo could be dismissed, as well as, Alain Vigneault. The Flyers did not make all these acquisitions for nothing. No one is safe if the Flyers underachieve this year.

The Flyers power play after the first game was 1-3 (33.3 success rate), whereas the Flyers penalty kill was dreadful (50% success rate) with offering two goals on four chances allowed. Yes, it’s only the first game, but it needs to improve immediately. The penalty kill will dictate the success of the Flyers season
Zack MacEwen was plucked off of waivers to play on a nightly basis. The Metropolitan Division is very tough, and physical. An area of need that the Flyers had to shore up was physicality. Chuck Fletcher knew this, and couldn’t address it with all his different moves in the offseason, so he waited for the waiver wire to pluck cheap players off waivers. MacEwen provides energy and grit to the fourth line, he will be an everyday player.
After yesterday’s game with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. I think the Flyers are looking at sometime in November-December. It’s never good when you get benched for a portion of the third period, to include a 6-on-3 man advantage. He did not play well at all, and Frost needs to refocus. Here is a quote from Ian Laperrière, from the great Tony Androckitis following yesterday’s game on Frost:
“I want more out of him. He’s one of my leaders, one of the guys I’m relying on to create offense. But he has to play better defense to create that offense. That’s part of becoming a pro, and growing up as a pro. He needs to learn. That’s pretty much it.” – Ian Laperrière in a quote obtained from Tony Androckitis
The Flyers will not call him up just to call him up. He has to stick permanently, and right now Frost does not have his rythym back. He’s still inconsistent, one game he is good, next game not so much. When he gets it together, then he will earn a call-up.
