Unbelievable right!!! The NHL has suspended play with the hopes to resume the season at some point, due to the CoronaVirus. This was the right decision for sure, however, this young Flyers team was looking to defeat the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night, after playing a well fought game against the best team in the NHL in the Boston Bruins this past Tuesday, a game in which Shayne Gostisbehere played well in his first game back from injury.

The Lehigh Valley Phantoms have a few NHL ready defencemen. They have Andy Welinski and Mark Friedman. Welinski is more than capable of filling in, but more than likely, he will not be re-signed at year’s end, due to the Flyers adding Wyatte Wylie, Linus Hogberg, and possibly Wyatt Kalynuk and David Bernhardt.

The fact is Friedman doesn’t make mistakes. He plays a solid, mistake free game. Friedman tallied first career NHL point on Connor Bunnaman’s first NHL goal during a prior recall. He also finished that recall with averaging 13:01 in ice time, 4 hits, 4 blocks, and 1 Takeaway with 0 Giveaways. Simply put, the young man doesn’t make mistakes. More than likely, he will be with the Flyers full-time next season

1,700…1,700 confirmed cases (As of 5am this morning) of the Coronavirus in the United States, with the death toll raising to 41. This virus is spreading like a wildfire, and action had to be taken on sports throughout the United States. On Thursday, most sporting events throughout the World have suspended (Pending with the hopes to resume play), or cancelled play for the rest of the season. Action had to be taken in the NHL, and Gary Bettman suspended play with the hopes of resuming the season at some point in the future.

Believe it or not, there is some good news to report with the suspension of play in the NHL due to to the Coronavirus. Injured players can heal, and hopefully return, when play resumes sometime late in March or April (At the earliest). What does this mean for the Flyers? Well, depending on the length of the suspension the Flyers could get Nate Thompson (Out 2 weeks with a sprained knee), Philippe Myers (Out 4 weeks with a fractured Patella in his right knee), JVR (Out 4-6 weeks with a broken index finger), and possibly Nolan Patrick (Migraine Disorder) back from injuries. Your Philadelphia Flyers were rocking before the virus, as they sit in second place in the Metropolitan Division with 89 points.

Just imagine how much noise the Flyers could make in the playoffs, when play resumes of course, with the return of some Grade “A” talent like Patrick. The Flyers could really be primed for an extended playoff run by all means. Simply put, Patrick could return following this suspension (Depending on length) with no problem.
