The Flyers (15-8-3, 33 points, 7th in the Eastern Conference) are set to host the Colorado Avalanche (20-2-6, 46 points, 1st overall in the NHL) today at 1:00 p.m. ET at the Xfinity Mobile Arena.tomorrow.

This matchup pits a gritty, defense-first Flyers squad against the league’s most explosive offense, fresh off Colorado’s 3-2 overtime thriller over the New York Rangers last night. If the Flyers can “eat” into the Avs’ league-leading attack, it’ll be a signature win for Rick Tocchet’s bunch, but the odds heavily favor the visitors.

  • Avalanche on a Tear: Colorado’s 20 wins tie the modern-era record for most through 28 games, powered by Nathan MacKinnon’s MVP-caliber play—he notched both goals in last night’s OT win. The Avs average 3.5 goals per game (3rd in NHL) but face a Flyers defense that’s stingy at 2.8 goals allowed (8th). Their Power Play ranks a middling 25th (15.3%), so Philly’s penalty kill (82.4%, 10th) could neutralize that edge.
  • Flyers’ Home Grit: Philadelphia’s been solid at home (8-3-2), winning 50% of their underdog spots this season. They’re coming off a 5-2 rout of Buffalo and boast a balanced attack led by Trevor Zegras (26 points in 26 games, point-per-game pace). Owen Tippett has history here, scoring against Colorado last year. But injuries loom: Defenseman Cam York is a “slight option,” and Rasmus Ristolainen’s nearing a debut after offseason surgery.
  • Head-to-Head History: Colorado swept last season’s two meetings (including a 4-2 win in Philly), but the Flyers’ improved blue line—featuring Travis Sanheim and Jamie Drysdale—could disrupt Cale Makar’s wizardry (he tallied points in both prior games).

The Avs’ depth and road form (8-1-4) overwhelm Philly’s inconsistencies, but expect Tippett or Zegras to dent Mackenzie Blackwood.
