The young 25-year-old, 6’3 181 pound, Travis Sanheim was the Flyers most steadiest defenseman last season. Paired alongside Rasmus Ristolainen for the majority of the season in 2021-22, the two played well together for the most part. Sanheim was very consistent, and arguably the Flyers best Defenseman. The one area that Sanheim should have received more playing time was the Power Play. It’s time to take the gloves off these younger guys, and see what the Flyers got.

He was in the passing lanes, his gap control was better, and Sanheim was just confident with the puck which were leading to quick zone exits, now he’s looking forward to playing with Tony DeAngelo. Sanheim said he was excited to play with DeAngelo, and that this is a clean slate for the season.

“A lot of people are doubting us, but there’s no doubt in that locker room, clean slate,” Sanheim said. “Just excited to get going. Obviously, a tough year last year, a long year. You watch the playoffs and you want to get there. Just a reset, being able to know last year is in the past.”

Sanheim believes the team has a good mix of physicality and skill. He also said that is needed to play at both ends of the ice, “We believe in ourselves,” Sanheim said. “Just having everyone here before the start of training camp shows the excitement we have.”

Ryan Ellis is back and in Voorhees now. He was seen yesterday at the Flyers Training Center, unfortunately, I do not know if he skates or not. However, Sanheim even spoke of him at his presser:

“I haven’t spoken with him recently, but I did speak with him in the Summer, and things sounded positive. He is a big piece to our group.” – Travis Sanheim on Ryan Ellis

Whatever the case may be for Sanheim and the Flyers, he is excited for the new season. What will transpire is anyone’s guess, but it appears they are embracing new Head Coach John Tortorella.
