Flyers’ 2025 Training Camp officially opened today at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees, N.J., marking the dawn of the Rick Tocchet era as the new Head Coach. It also marked the don of a new era in Michkov-Zegras-Konecny.

With a 57-man roster (33 forwards, 17 defensemen, and 7 goaltenders) players were divided into three teams for practices, the focus is on evaluation, integration of new talent, and building toward the preseason opener on September 21 against the New York Islanders. General Manager Danny Briere has emphasized a patient rebuild amid a five-year playoff drought, but camp will reveal if young players can accelerate the timeline.

No Michkov-Zegras-Konecny Trio

The idea of a Michkov-Zegras-Konecny line has generated buzz among Flyers fans, with many seeing it as a dynamic, high-skill trio that could define the team’s offensive identity. However, Rick Tocchet threw in a monkey wrench on day one of camp with opening lines: Bump-Zegras-Konecny, Grebenkin-Couturier-Michkov:

  • Complementary Skills: Zegras’s elite puck-carrying and playmaking pair well with Michkov’s goal-scoring and vision. Konecny’s two-way play, speed, and ability to retrieve pucks could allow the other two to focus on offense. This trio could excel in transition and on the Power Play, where the Flyers struggled last season (15% success rate, third-worst in the NHL).
  • Creative Chaos: Both Michkov and Zegras are known for their unpredictable, highlight-reel plays, which could overwhelm defenses. Konecny’s grit and finishing ability add balance, preventing the line from being one-dimensional. Analysts suggest this line could be “electric” and “watchable,” potentially transforming the Flyers into a must-see team.
  • Coaching Impact: Under new Head Coach Rick Tocchet, the Flyers are expected to refine the raw talent of Michkov and Zegras. Tocchet aims to balance Zegras’s flair with discipline and enhance Michkov’s chess-like vision, potentially making this line a consistent offensive threat.

Alex Bump and Nikita Grebenkin are at the forefront of making the team outright of camp, seeings they are getting top six minutes presumably with the line pairings. Both lines were cohesive and gelled together today. Let’s see if these olines stick tomorrow.

It’s become quite increasingly clear that the Flyers are high on Grebenkin, so-much-so, Grebenkin was at the forefront of media day yesterday. Michkov and Grebenkin were both in-sync with one another, while stuffing goal after goal. Grebenkin was on record last week that Michkov has taken him under his wing, spo this comes as no surprise for the pairing.

No Oliver Bonk

Oliver Bonk is at the Flyers’ 2025 Training Camp, however, he is currently dealing with an upper-body injury, as confirmed by General Manager Danny Briere.

Bonk participated in a non-contact jersey during a recent practice session, indicating a cautious approach to his recovery. No specific timeline for his return to full contact has been provided, but he is expected to need some time to recover. Despite the injury, Bonk remains a key prospect, with a strong chance to push for an NHL roster spot or, more likely, start the season with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

No Rope Test on first day, but how about push ups???

Rick Tocchet, now Head Coach of the Flyers, has eliminated the infamous “rope test” for the 2025 training camp, a departure from the grueling eight-lap sprint around the rink used by his predecessor, John Tortorella. This change aligns with Tocchet’s coaching philosophy, which balances demanding play with giving players more freedom to develop. The Flyers’ training camp will focus more on evaluation, integrating new talent, and building a high-tempo style without the rope test’s intense physical benchmark.

Instead of using a orpe test, Tocchet apparently supplemented that for Push Ups to get his point across. Yup, the Tocchet era has officially begun

Tyson Foerster

Foerster was in a non-contact (Purple( jersey today as camp began. He is in the Group B session, and was making some nice feeds today.

Hopefully, his infection will all in the past as the season nears.

Denver Barkey and Jett Luchanko

This isn’t just the Bump and Grebenkin show, both Luchanko and Grebenkin have been given equal shots to make the club.

Luchanko and Barkey impressed, and it’s great to see Luchanko on the ice especially since he missed all of rookie camp. Even still, he’s still very talented, and should be given every shot to make the club outright.

For the record, Luchanko and Christian Dvorak were the two main Centers in Group B, as both Bobby Brink and Noah Cates were rotating on each wing.
