People have come to love John Tortorella’s bag skate day, well people that don;’t have to do it anyways. Seeing the long rope, and watching the players skate and then skate again is unlike anything I’ve personally have seen before.

Flyers Training Camp

What to watch for at Training Camp

Lines, lines, lines. No one knows what the lines will look like on opening night, however, Sean Couturier battled through it, even during the suicide skates, “I watched him today (Sean Couturier) and then I said oh S..t, but he fought through it and finished it.”

Tortorella also, commended Jamie Drysdale, and Matvei Michkov for also battling through it and finishing.

Good news, absolutely, even on bag skate day. Sean Couturier and Rasmus Ristolainen were those amongst the first group on the ice for “The Rope” test. Jamie Drysdale was in the second group, proving he is healthy.

“I just go balls out,” Ristolainen said following suicide skates. He also said he had in-season surgery, and then surgery in the offseason to repair his ruptured triceps tendon.

There are some interesting storylines, to which answers will be given in time. Look for young prospects like Emil Andrae , Hunter McDonald, Rodrigo Abols, and Oskar Eklind make a strong push for the club. Egor Zamula looks to make an impression to the Flyers top brass, as well, for the sixth defensive position. Most of these players have been in Voorhees for a large part of the Summer training for what is shaping up to be a grueling Training Camp.

Noah Cates was flying today and the suicide skates were not difficult for him at all. He was rarely hunched over, Cates actually reminded me a bit of Ivan Provorov, in terms of coming to camp in great shape.

Travis Konecny looks in great shape, as does Joel Farabee, Cam York, and Tyson Foerster. These aforementioned players spent a large portion in Voorhees, with Konecny staying around for a month after this season concluded.

Jamie Drysdale said, “The skate lived up to everything I heard about it. It was a grind.”He did say his “Body feels good”, and that he is ready to go, while Scott Laughton paid homage to Johnny and Matt Gaudreau during his presser.

What else will take place at Training Camp is anyone’s guess, but it will be fun to watch. John Tortorella took the blame for last season, with how it ended with just missing the playoffs.
