About a month ago Cutter Gauthier decided to return to Boston College for his Sophomore season in 2023-24. Now he represents an undefeated USA team (6-0) at the World Championships
Gauthier made Team USA for the World Championships, but he was knocked out of a preliminary game with a blatant elbow to the head, to which he did not return. Fortunately, he was okay, as he now plays on the third line for Team USA.
This is great news, as he could have been held out for precautionary reasons. Playing in this tournament is a smart move for his development, as it is a great experience for this young man. Especially playing against some NHL’ers, like his soon to be comrades in Ronnie Attard and Scott Laughton who plays for Team Canada.
“If it was easy everyone would do it,” that’s the motto that Flyers top prospect Cutter Gauthier lives by. A goal scorer is blossoming at Boston College, and his name is Cutter Gauthier. Gauthier is a fan favorite already and he has yet to play in one game for the Flyers, “If it was easy everyone would do it. I’ve missed out on a lot of my high school kid things due to the passion of the game, but it’s paid off,” says Gauthier.
A young Gauthier, 18, stands at 6’2 and weighs 189 pounds. Not only is this a solid build for not only a pro hockey player, but this gives the Flyers much needed size down the middle in the future. At first glance, he’s a versatile player that can play both Wing and Center. He played mainly Center for the Boston College Eagles last season, but he reveals that he will play any position that best suits what the coaches needs.
After tallying a hat trick yesterday against France, that makes six goals in six games for this young 18-year-old in Gauthier. He now has seven points in the tournament, as he continues to remind me of John LeClair.
LeClair was able to use his size well and not only get into the dirty areas to score a goal, but he had one wicked wrist shot. He was able to pick his shot, whether it be top shelf or bottom right corner, LeClair had impeccable shot accuracy. Gauthier believe it or not, is developing that same way. Look at some of these clips below, and how he is able to pick his poison. He skates well for his size, and Gauthier is just playing with a lot of confidence right now.
Gauthier was the guy the Flyers wanted from day one, they love his shot, size, and his skating abilities for being a more sizeable prospect in the pipeline. They love what he can eventually become, especially with his candidness to shoot the puck. The Flyers are now targeting shoot-first players, and it’s become evident with the past two drafts. For instance, Tyson Foerster’s best ability is his shot, while Samu Tuomaala, although struggling in the Liiga League, is a first shot mentality player. The Flyers are really trying to find a sniper(s) to wreak havoc on their opponents in the future.
