One thing John Tortorella has been consistent with, with this now being his second training camp with the Flyers. He keeps lines together as he tries to develop chemistry within the units.
Today marks the third day in a row of the same lines:
Furry, Couturier, Tippett (Konecny maintenance day)
Farabee, Frost, Atkinson
Laughton, Cates, Foerster
Hathaway, Poehling, Deslauriers
Fauchon, Laczynski, Allison
Lycksell, Desnoyers , Brink
The top five lines can be considered NHL lines, with the sixth line being mostly compromised as a Phantoms line.
These are the main positional battles right now: Fourth line Center, coupled with Foerster being giving every opportunity to make the club outright.
Good news for Allison as he is on the bubble to make the team. He is coming to camp in great shape, skating well, and now scoring. Tanner Laczynski also had a strong day today, and he needs that.
The big story of the day is Brendan Furry. Travis Konecny was a little banged up, so he was kept out. Per Head Coach John Tortorella, Konecny expect him to participate in tomorrow’s first pre-season game against the New Jersey Devils. This is a young man who will play for the Phantoms this season, but might see a call up at times. Max Willman is no longer with the Flyers as he is on a PTO with the New Jersey Devils. Maybe Furry could be the new Willman. Whatever the case may be, this is a big testament for how the Flyers feel about Furry. Furry has come to camp in great shape, and skated rather well during the gauntlet skating exercise this past Thursday. Here’s a neat story below I wrote on Furry last weekend.
Samuel Ersson really made some good safes today. Yesterday was Cal Petersen’s day, today it was Ersson who got the upper hand. Ersson made some strong glove save today, as he remains in competition for the backup Goaltending role the Carter Hart.
Tomorrow is the first pre-season game for the Flyers. Again do not expect Konecny to play against the Devils.
Will the game be on tv?
