It was all of what Flyers fans were waiting for as the Flyers beat the Penguins the third time this year with a final score of 2-1 in a shootout. Flyers goaltender Carter Hart played a great game throughout, especially in overtime and the shootout. He was locked in and focused on winning, which helped out big time. The Flyers had awesome momentum going forward after the third period knowing how stellar of a job Hart had. Great win all around.

Both teams in the first period had multiple chances to get on board but couldn’t accomplish anything big to get the scoring going.

Just 5:04 into the second period, Kris Letang softly pushed the puck toward Flyers goaltender Carter Hart, but Sidney Crosby came flying past and shot the rebound off the stick of Hart and into the net for a 1-0 Penguins lead. Crosby had lost his stick earlier in the play and grabbed a new stick from the bench just before he scored the goal.

The rest of the fifteen minutes of the second period was quiet as no other big goals were scored

With 18:36 left regulation, Flyers Jakub Voracek got an excellent look in the slotcenter and ripped the puck right through the five hole of Tristan Jarry to tie the game up at one a piece.

Flyers were locked in during the last period. Their defense was much better than in previous games. Even though Nolan Patrick went down after getting hit by a puck in the face, the Flyers didn’t let that bother them as they made everything tricky for the Penguins offensive play making. Fortunately, Flyers Head Coach Alain Vigneault said that “Everything is fine” with Nolan Patrick following the game.

The last twenty minutes of the game wasn’t enough for both teams to score as they went in to overtime tied at one.

Unfortunately, the five extra minutes of overtime didn’t go as planned on the Flyers side. They got a power play opportunity in the overtime because of a Sidney Crosby penalty, but couldn’t cash in.

Carter Hart gave up a goal to Jake Guenzel on the first shootout shot, but stoned Crosby and Letang to give the Flyers the 2-1 win. Giroux and Couturier scored shootout goal for the Flyers

“It was a huge two points,” Carter Hart said following the game. “That was a pretty ridiculous move by G there (Shootout).”

“I did it. It was pretty cool,” Wade Allison said of his NHL debut.

The Flyers get a much needed victory and improve their record to 20-17-6.

NEXT UP: The Flyers are back in South Philadelphia to take on the 28-12-4 Washington Capitals at the Wells Fargo Center at 12:30pm ET. The game can be seen on NBC Sports Philadelphia.
