At only 19-years-old, Tyson Foerster is starting to show maturity at such a young age on the ice. Tyson is a strong playmaker and has a shoot first mentality. Foerster was signed by the Philadelphia Flyers following the 2020 NHL Draft, as he was a first round selection, #23 overall.

He is comfortable when he is in the face-off circle on the left side. Tyson feeds players extremely well and is always looking for where his target is. Foerster can bring qualities to the ice that the Flyers are lacking, but he needs his time with the Phantoms to not slow down his development. He took advantage of playing in the AHL with uncertainty surrounding the OHL last season. Tyson gained valuable professional experience, and tutelage from some veteran players like Cal O’Reilly and Garrett Wilson, whom he speaks of very highly of for helping him as he has stated to us at developmental camp a few weeks ago, “Pretty cool being up there with all the guys that have played in the National League and just been up there a while,” Foerster said. “It’s pretty cool to learn from guys like Cal O’Reilly and Garrett Wilson. I’m looking forward to that, but like I said, it’s out of my control. I hope I can prove myself out here to help their decision.”

Tyson shoots right and mans the left side of power plays, and can easily understand what play is going to happen in the offensive zone. He is a double threat when it comes to odd man rushes, and he can move and pass the puck efficiently and score goals during these situations. Moreover, he has tallied two shootout goals for the Phantoms, and just has a knack for the net, “I think it’d be huge for me to go back there,” Foerster says. “That’s really out of my control. I’m just going to try and prove myself at camp.”

Foerster continues, “I think I’m improving every day. Honestly, I feel like I can hold my own out there. Hopefully, I can show that at camp as well.”

He has many good qualities to his style of play that covers many of the area the Flyers are currently in lack of and he is 100%, “I think I’m in great health right now. My shoulder is a lot better,” Foerster says. “I’m looking forward to this camp.” Foerster provides a shoot first mentality and gets to the greasy areas to pot a goal. Tyson may not see the Flyers roster for another year or two, as he needs to work on his skating and transition while he is with the Phantoms. He tends to be caught with his footing when the play quickly turns the other way. Tyson gave last year’s Phantoms team a spark, so let’s see what he can do, hopefully, with the Phantoms this season again, as opposed to playing in the OHL, “That was huge for me and I think for Wis too,” Foerster said. “I think it was huge because I’m playing against stronger guys, bigger guys. I showed that I can hold my own there and I think I proved myself there. I think it’d be huge for me to go back there (Lehigh). That’s really out of my control. I’m just going to try and prove myself at camp.”
