The Flyers looked destined for the playoffs until they lost eight games in a row, and they couldn’t find there MOJO. There are many reasons to blame from dropping out of a playoff spot; from a bad Power Play, to Goaltending, to a no longer defensively structured team. It’s not just on one person, it’s on the team as a whole.

Of course, John Tortorella will return as the Flyers Head Coach, at least until “Danny says get the hell out of here.” Full quote: “I’m already thinking about next year. I am totally in. Until Danny says get the hell out of here,” Torts says.

Rocky Thompson will be back next season as the Power Play coach, “I think Rocky Thompson is a terrific coach. Rocky Thompson is one hell of a coach. We need to have a discussion on our Power Play,” Tortorella said. The Flyers said they will look internally to fix their Power Play woes, with the likes of Patrick Sharp and Dany Heatley. Tortorella also mentioned Danny Briere as being good with the Power Play. Maybe Briere hits the ice next to help the team?

Danny Briere and John Tortorella also said they will add more talent, but they will not be very active in free agency, “We are not going to throw a lot of money at a free agent. We are not parting with younger assets to get veteran players,” Briere said.

Briere talked about adding players via trade, “We are open for business”, and that he would make a trade if it made hockey sense. With that being said, I can really see them being players for one of Trevor Zegras, Jakob Chychrun, or Shane Pinto. Maybe Peyton Krebs too possibly.

What will happen next season is anyone’s guess, but this team still has some glaring holes. Obviously, the rebuild will continue next season, so let’s how this offseason transpires for the orange and black.

Jakub Voracek

A former Flyer Jakub Voracek calls it a career, officially. Although, most knew he would never play again he officially calls it quits.

  1. Keeping Rocky Thompson as power play coach is a huge mistake. Guess they are going for 4 years in a row as the worst power play team in the NHL. Already have 3….
