Monday morning the Flyers Training Center was buzzing again as Rookie Camp was back in session. Sunday was an “on ice” day off following the Rookie Series games at the PPL Center in Allentown over the weekend.
The Flyers ended up splitting games against the New York Rangers rookie squad. Friday night the Flyers had a nice come from behind victory. Saturday evening the Rangers got their revenge.
Defenseman Oliver Bonk was back on the ice this morning after missing Saturday’s game. Alex Bump was not on the ice today. So Bonk in, Bump out.
Jett Luchanko has not skated as part of this Rookie Camp due to a nagging groin injury. But he was skating with the Flyers veterans this morning before Rookie Camp took over the ice, so hopefully that’s a good sign.
2025 first round pick Jack Nesbitt was a strong presence in Allentown over the weekend. Nesbitt was pulling 1C duties and he did not go unnoticed. The Rangers squad was certainly aware of him. Jack does not shy away from the gritty areas and confrontations.
He is willing to plant himself in the crease and take the heat for doing so. He’s a hard working player and always one of the very last to leave the ice. He is making the most of his first camp with the Flyers.
Today’s camp included a lot of close quarters drills with the nets being placed either on the blue lines or side to side across the rink. The pace was quick and the competition fierce. With the games against the Rangers behind them these guys aren’t just playing for fun. Their playing for a shot at sticking around to be part of the main camp which will start later on this week.
After tomorrow Flyers Rookie Camp 2025 will be in the books and Flyers Training Camp will be coming up right behind it. Hockey’s back Philly, and it’s about time. Let’s go!
