Flyers Rookie Camp got underway this morning at the Training Center in Voorhees NJ. Flyers Fans were waiting in the lobby area for the doors to open when the shades started going up on the other side of the lobby to give view of what was going on inside the secondary rink.

At first it was difficult to figure out exactly what I was looking at, it was not at all what I expected to see. Instead of rookies and prospects it was the Flyers veterans and they were well into a full-on inter-squad scrimmage. Not every Flyer who is expected to be on the roster was there but many were. It was a physical, high paced, 5-on-5 match that was a blast to watch.

It was a sneak preview of next week’s action as well as a first chance to see Trevor Zegras in the Orange and Black interacting with his new team. Tyson Foerster was the lone player wearing a purple jersey. This was probably to denote “no” or “limited” contact. Foerster, who is recovering from injury, looked good out there and actually notched the game winning goal during a sudden death 3-on-3.
Rookie Camp 2025

The Flyers Rookie Squad took to the ice to open the 2025 camp. It will be interesting to see how far some of these players may go into main camp which begins towards the end of next week.
Much anticipated names like Oliver Bonk, Alex Bump, Jack Nesbitt, and goaltender Carson Bjarnason put their best feet forward as the brass of the Flyers organization looked on from the balcony above.

Unfortunately Jett Luchanko did not take the ice today. The organization is being cautious with the young center. He is still recovering from the groin injury that kept him off the ice during Development Camp this Summer. The timing on this nagging injury could not be timed much worse for a player who earned a nine game tryout with the team out of camp last season.
The Flyers first pick in the 2025 NHL Draft Porter Martone is playing this season at Michigan State and will not be attending camp with the team this year.

Denver Barkey is coming off of a storybook season as the captain of the Memorial Cup Champion London Knights. Barkey was tied for the top scoring spot in the tournament sharing the Ed Chynoweth Trophy and being named to the Memorial Cup all star team. Barkey was picked by the Flyers in the 3rd round of the 2023 draft. He’s coming into this camp with a ton of momentum behind him and very well could be a player to keep your eye on.

What’s next?
Rookie Camp resumes Friday for a morning skate before the team makes it way to Allentown to faceoff against the Rangers rookie squad at the PPL Center. Puck drops at 7:05 PM.
Extra Credit: Both Zayde Wisdom and Anthony Richard were taking part in the Flyers scrimmage before camp today. Richard was quite impressive during the short time he spent with the Flyers last year. He had a real habit of showing up at the right place, at the right time, and doing the right thing.
