The Philadelphia Flyers hit the road Thursday night for a game against former Flyers captain Claude Giroux and the Ottawa Senators. Rodrigo Abols drew into the lineup with Jett Luchanko coming out. Dan Vladar got his third consecutive start in net. The Flyers would remain winless on the road after losing a close one. They scored very early but that was all. Back to .500 they’d go at 3-3-1 on the season.

Just 29 seconds into the game, Tyson Foerster gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead. Travis Konecny fed him with a pass to the high slot and Foerster ripped a wrist shot past the blocker of Senators goaltender Linus Ullmark. Konecny and Sean Couturier tallied assists.
Michael Amadio tied the game up at one for the Senators at the 7:57 mark of the first period. Giroux passed the puck across the ice to him and Amadio put a wrist shot past Vladar’s glove. Giroux and Artem Zub picked up assists.
The Senators got the game’s first powerplay at the 8:17 mark of the first as Bobby Brink got called for hooking. Vladar only had to make one save and the Flyers had a few great scoring chances while shorthanded.
The Flyers got their first powerplay at the 11:18 mark of the first period as Nick Cousins was called for goaltender interference. An aggressive penalty kill by the Senators gave the Flyers all sorts of trouble and they only managed to get one shot one net.
Matvei Michkov was called for tripping at the 15:04 mark of the first which gave the Senators their second powerplay. Vladar had to make some huge saves to keep the game tied. Three shots were recorded by the Senators, but only two of them were testers.
Olle Lycksell gave the Senators a 2-1 lead at the 3:05 mark of the second period. Lars Eller fed him with a pass between the legs in front and Lycksell put a wrist shot into a wide-open net. Eller and Nick Jensen were awarded assists.

The Senators got their third powerplay at the 3:39 mark of the second as Couturier got called for hooking. Vladar held his ground in net as the Senators had a few scoring chances from in tight.
The game went to four-on-four as Nick Seeler and David Perron both were called for roughing at the 17:39 mark of the second period. Christian Dvorak missed a tip-in chance but that was all. However, Jensen was called for tripping at the 18:37 mark which gave the Flyers a four-on-three advantage. They had multiple chances to tie the game, but couldn’t get any pucks to go in.
Seeler got called for goaltender interference just 2:09 into the third period. This gave the Senators their fourth powerplay of the game. The Flyers did a great job clearing the puck and also had a few scoring chances while shorthanded.
The Flyers got their third powerplay of the night at the 4:43 mark of the third as Zub was called for interference. With only 13 seconds remaining, Trevor Zegras got called for tripping. That sent it to four-on-four and then the Senators would get their fifth powerplay. The Senators were in the zone a majority of the time on the powerplay and had a few nice looks, but Vladar had all the answers to their shots.
Vladar was pulled with only 1:35 left in the third in favor of the extra attacker but it didn’t work. The Flyers couldn’t get any more pucks past Ullmark. The Senators held on to win 2-1.
The Flyers went 0 for 3 on the powerplay but killed off all five of the Senators man advantages.
Vladar saved 31 of 33 shots, giving him a .939 save percentage.
