The Flyers, of course, had yet another roller coaster season. They missed the playoffs for a fifth straight season, and that is a franchise record.

Matvei Michkov did great and despite being benched by former Flyers Head Coach John Tortorella. Michkov managed to register 63 points (26g,37a), “There are moments in the season, I could have scored more. I’m not happy with my result.”
The second half of the season got even worse for the orange and black. Unfortunately, John Tortorella got canned, and Interim Head Coach Brad Shaw then took over. Brad Shaw went 5-3-1 as a Head Coach, and ultimately the team played a little looser under his tenure.
Travis Konecny and Matvei Michkov became a good duo. They had good chemistry with one another, and both offer the Flyers next coach value as a pairing in the future.

Sean Couturier started to look at like his old self, as well with Konecny and Michkov as his linemates. This trip really became a force the last 10 games under Shaw’s direction. Couturier said his exit interview that John Tortorella pushed his thoughts aside, and really did have a good relationship with him. Maybe that’s why Tortorella was hesitant or reluctant to put these three back together, during the latter parts of the season.
With it all being said and done, the orange and black do offer value in the future. As it stands right now, the Flyers do hold the number four pick in the draft. However, the first order of business is trying to find the right Head Coach to spear head this rebuild in the right direction.
Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere did say that he would go down the college route to find the right Head Coach. In addition, he also said that he would look at the RFA (Restricted Free Agent) route to find an elite talent.
Ultimately, I think Travis Konecny is right. Konecny said the Flyers should make the playoffs next season, but are still two years away from contending.
