Members of team Canada for the World Juniors 2021 event have arrived in Red Deer, Alberta for the 28 day training camp. Flyers prospects Tyson Foerster and Mason Millman will try out to earn a spot on Canada’s main roster, in hopes of starting play December 26th.

The World Juniors is always a fun event because you get to see your favorite teams prospects or players who are draft eligible for the current draft year.

Tyson Foerster, Center

Tyson Foerster was selected by the Flyers in the first-round in the 2020 NHL Draft. This past season he played for the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, posting 36 goals and 44 assists for 80 points in 62 games. He is known for being a lethal goal-scorer, especially on the power-play. His quick hands are dangerous and he uses them to his advantage to change the angle of his shot at the last second. His skating was a concern for scouts, but he has been working hard to improve his stride during this offseason. Defensively, he plays a good positional game and has an active stick.

Foerster was a great selection for the Flyers. For a few years, the Flyers have always needed a player they can rely on to be a “consistent” goal-scorer, especially on the powerplay. He is a huge get for the Flyers power-play, which had a little bit of trouble this past year, *hint hint during the playoffs*. If he makes team Canada, Flyers fans will get a look at a potential 30-40 plus goal scorer in the NHL. He already has signed  an entry-level deal too by the way!

Mason Millman, LHD

Mason Millman was selected by the Flyers in the fourth-round in the 2019 NHL Draft. He spent this past season with the Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League and he posted 13 goals and 31 assists for 44 points in 58 games. Millman has been a player that has really started to make a name for himself. He is definitely a sleeper in the Flyers prospect pool. He is a smooth-skating, puck-moving, defenseman who plays a smart game on both defense and offense. His passes are crisp and he does a good job of seeing passing lanes. Millman is also noted for being a great power-play quarterback. Defensively, he plays his position well and has decent gap control.

The Flyers are very lucky to have a lot of great defensive prospects in their system already. If Millman keeps getting better, which is a great thing, he will be another strong add to the Flyers roster.

With team Canada’s selection camp being extremely deep this year, fighting for a spot is going to be difficult for a lot of players. Hopefully we get to see these guys suit up for Canada and get a glance at the skills they will bring to the Flyers one day.
