Bobby Brink was selected by the Flyers in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft. After a stellar freshman year with the University of Denver, he is looking like a true star in the making.

Brink’s transition to the NCAA level was very smooth. On a loaded Denver team, Brink tallied 24 points (11 goals, and 13 assists) in 28 games, while being listed third on the team in points per game with 0.86. Brink was also a power-play pest this season, recording 13 of his points on the PP. In the end, he managed to finish the season second in NCHC rookie points.

Accomplishments and award wise, Brink was named to the NCHC All-Rookie Team and was a finalist for the NCHC Rookie of the Year. He was also named to quite a few NCHC Player of the Week and Player of the Month honors throughout the season.

Due to a sprained MCL, Brink missed the last seven games of the season with Denver.

Another Bobby Brink accomplishment was that he represented Team USA alongside fellow Flyers prospect, Cam York, at the 2020 World Junior Championships in Czech Republic. He recorded a stat line of one goal and one assist for two total points in five games. He was a very effective player for the USA, showing off his hockey IQ and playmaking abilities.

One area of his game that improved this year was his skating. When he was drafted, he was known for having a weird stride.

Take a Look

Brink shows off his crafty hands and playmaking skills on an assist against Minnesota Duluth.

In the play above you can see Brink skating the puck up ice and dancing through the opposition to make a play. Now take a close look at his stride. It is very smooth and he has a long push which helps him generate more speed. It’s not choppy or short like it used to be. He also displays excellent edgework and agility to get past the defenders.

All in all, Brink has a solid skill set that the Flyers are going to love. With even more work on his skating, he should transition nicely to the NHL level when it’s Brink’s time to play with the Flyers. Next season he is expected to go back to the University of Denver.
