Flyers’ General Manager Chuck Fletcher had multiple options, and good ones, at pick 23 in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft. He chose to select a sniper with a dynamite shot in Tyson Foerster.

Foerster was a beast in Junior hockey while playing for the Barrie Colts, as he razzled and dazzled opponents. He also torched opposing Goaltender’s on a nightly basis, as well. Goaltender’s are usually left banging their sticks on the Cross Bar of the net after Forester beats them.

This young 18-year-old in Foerster has really made the most of his opportunity with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this season, due to the uncertainty with the OHL (Ontario Hockey League). His skating has improved dramatically this season, and Foerster is fresh coming off a two goal, two assist performance last night in a Phantoms 3-1 victory over the Hershey Bears, “I think honestly there’s even more still to give. I think there is always room to improve,” Foerster said following the win. “Everyone is in a positive mood, even at practice.”
By the time opponents are aware of Foerster in most cases he has blown by them the other way, while creating a scoring chance their own zone. Foerster is blessed with gifted hands, as he makes crisp tape to tape passes. His shot is heavy and accurate. Foerster does not hesitate to shoot, thus making him a sniper not a playmaker. He is a goal scorer’s dream, and he gets to dirty areas, as well, to pot a goal. He appears to be faster this year after working on his skating in the offseason.
The Colts product, Foerster has great vision and gets into the open areas of the ice. He is just so tough to move off the puck it becomes tall tasks for defenseman to catch up to him after he has blown by them. Many defensemen are not like Myers that possess a quick first step and have long strides to be able to catch up to Foerster once he hits the open area of the ice.
Fortunately, Foerster is so darn talented offensively he can breakout out anytime. He appears to be a giddy kid, good character guy in the locker room, and I have not heard one bad thing about him.
Cam York
As I wrote yesterday, Cam York signed his Entry-Level-Contract with the Flyers before the game. It is a three-year ELC that begins this season. Per Head Coach Alain Vigneault he will play for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms this season. This is not a shock by any means, as York is a talented LHD and arguably one of the Flyers prized possessions in their farm system.
York was born on January 5, 2001, in Anaheim Hills, CA. Many wouldn’t think California would be known as a hockey area, however, York found a passion, and a love for the sport of hockey at a very young age, as he exclaimed to me last year. York will go to the professional level and really help this struggling Flyers defense in a big way in the future, even possibly this year.
