Heikki Ruohonen has indeed been making waves at the 2025 World Junior Summer Showcase (WJSS) in Minneapolis, held from July 25 to August 2. Representing Finland, the Philadelphia Flyers prospect and fourth-round pick (No. 107) in the 2024 NHL Draft has shown his value as a two-way center with strong playmaking and physicality.

On July 27 game against Team USA White, despite Finland’s 5-2 loss, Ruohonen stood out by setting up Finland’s first goal with a slick move around a defender, showcasing his offensive instincts and forechecking tenacity. He was described as one of the most visible Finnish players on the ice, driving offense and creating scoring chances across all situations.

In another game on July 28 against USA Blue, Ruohonen recorded an assist on Roope Vesterinen’s goal, contributing to Finland’s 3-2 victory. His line, alongside Tom Leppa and Saarelainen, was noted for being Finland’s most threatening, with Ruohonen’s smart play and effort forcing turnovers and setting up key chances. Additionally, his physical edge was evident in a notable check on US Forward James Reeder, followed by a competitive response from Noah Powell, highlighting his hard-nosed style.

Ruohonen’s performances underline his potential as a power forward with explosive skating and play-driving ability, qualities that align with his scouting profile as a player who outworks opponents and uses contact to his advantage. His time at the WJSS is a strong indicator of his readiness to compete at high levels, including his upcoming season with Harvard University and the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL.
