I can tell you this much, there’s probably going to be a whole lot of people saying “I told you so” when this game is over. Problem is I can’t tell you who’s going to be saying it.

Morning Skate

At the pre-game morning skate today the Flyers were crispy and upbeat. No matter what anyone tells you, everyone knows this is an important game. How could they not? The Metropolitan Division has been super tight all season long and as the regular season is winding down it is still anyone’s guess how things will shake out. You can only imagine if not for the Flyers disastrous January where they might be sitting at this point.

Since the Olympic break the Flyers have been looking much more like the team that was just points out of 1st place in the Metro over the holidays. They’ve won their last seven road games. They are finding ways to win games and it’s paying off as they have climbed their way back into the pack.

By the numbers

The Flyers currently have 80 points. The Columbus Blue Jackets are sitting in 3rd place in the division with 85 points. Tonight is what’s referred to a 4 point game. If the Jackets come out on top they take a 7 point lead on the Flyers. If the Flyers win this game they will only be 3 points out of 3rd place.

In the Wild Card race the Bruins have 86 points, Islanders 85, Detroit 84, and Ottawa with 83. The Flyers have a game in hand over all of these teams except the Islanders, they actually have two in hand over them.

After the skate this morning Travis Konecny had this to say about the situation. “The teams ahead of us have the pressure and we’re chasing them. So, just keep applying it. Keep putting it on them and just enjoy the games”.

The Flyers have a number of “4 point games” in these last few weeks of the regular season. It’s not mathematically impossible for them to make it to the playoffs. Tonight’s game could go a long way towards keeping that goal alive.

There are folks who wrote this season off at the break. Things were going really well before the new year. It is hard to overstate the impact the team’s play in January has had on defining this 2025-26 season.

You also have faithful fans who still see a path to the post season and will not give up hope until hope is mathematically lost. After this game tonight one of these two groups is going to be saying “I told you so”. Until the game is played it’s impossible to say which one.

Tyson Foerster

Tyson Foerster was skating with the team again today wearing a yellow “no-contact” jersey. Foerster is an upbeat guy and brings a lot of positive energy to the rink with him. Foerster has missed the majority of this season due to an injury sustained on December 1st. He’s a key ingredient that has been missing in the Flyers offense this year.

Next Up: Flyers vs Blue Jackets tonight in Philly 7PM.
