There is no rest for the weary at Flyers Training Camp 2024. Hot on the heels of a decisive preseason win in Washington last night training camp reconvened first thing Monday morning. Just for the record the Flyers did not look weary at all. The team was broken up into thirds as both rinks were in use at the practice facility in Voorhees NJ.

There was a morning skate for the players slated to face the Canadiens tonight. The other two groups remained behind to take part in a more rigorous day of training.

It is a busy day for the Flyers organization. After the morning skate the first group hit the road to make the trip to Montreal. The remaining players ran through a number of different drills. This camp is clearly focused on conditioning. The pace of the day was quick and relentless.

Many of the scenarios were of the 200 foot variety. The team was utilizing the entire length of the ice. They were not separating breaking out and breaking in. The drills started at their own goal line, maneuvering the full length of the ice, and then attacking the opposing net. This better mimics game situations rather than just breaking in from the red line over and over. It’s also a lot more skating. There is still a lot of skating involved.

The Flyers will face off against the Canadiens in Montreal tonight at 7:00 PM. The roster is not entirely different from last night’s game, but you will get a chance to see a number of players who did not suit up against the Capitals.

Flyers head coach John Tortorella invited Guy Gaudreau to attend today’s sessions as a guest coach. Guy is the father of Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau. Tortorella has extended an open invitation for Guy to return. Tortz said “He’s done some great work with the youth out there. I want him to be a part of it”.
