Matt Niskanen’s shocking retirement news sent shock waves to all Flyers fans and media personnel alike throughout the World. It sent shock waves throughout the entire Delaware Valley in a matter of seconds.
In just one season Niskanen formed himself into a true Flyer that battled his butt off night after night, was beaten and bruised on some nights, but most of all he formed himself into a great teammate. Not to forget he also formed a unique bond with the fans.
‘Nisky’ had nothing but good things to say about being paired with Ivan Provorov. He called Provorov a fantastic Defenseman, and at times he said “Provy is Provy” in a good way. Niskanen was a minutes eating Defenceman for the Flyers while averaging 21:54 of ice time per night. Believe me when I say Flyers fans knew this, as it appeared he was always on the ice.
