The Flyers had their fans back in full force but it wasn’t enough to bring a win for the Flyers. Although they fought hard, the Flyers fell to the Washington Capitals 3-1 on Sunday night. Ilya Samsonov was awesome in goal for the Capitals tonight blocking shots from all angles.

The first ten minutes of the game was very physical. The Capitals and Flyers created a lot of pressure in both offensive ends.

Flyers got on board with a goal by Joel Farabee. Farabee broke out on a 2-on-1 with James van Riemsdyk and kept the puck and slipped it through Ilya Samsonov’s legs to make the score 1-0 Flyers.

Both teams killed off a power play in the remainder of the period and the Flyers took a lead into the second period.

The Flyers and Caps traded opportunities in the first half of the second period, but neither team was able to score a goal. 15:11 in to the period, the Capitals didn’t miss their greatest scoring chance in the second period as they got on board with a goal by Alex Ovechkin. Zdeno Chara and T.J. Oshie assisted on the goal.

Dmitry Orlov scored the back breaking goal with 16 seconds left in the period. Orlov came down the right side and flicked the puck through Carter Harts five hole to give the Capitals a one goal lead going into the third period. 4:15 in to the last period, the Capitals picked up where they left off and took a two goal lead on a goal by Nick Jensen. Jensen took a sweet pass from TJ Oshie and whipped a shot past Carter Hart to make the score 3-1.

Ilya Samsonov made a number of spectacular saves down the stretch stopping multiple big shots by the Flyers. The Capitals were able to hold on and got the win. The Flyers fall to 12-7-3 on the season. On the other hand the Capitals are now 14-6-4 on the season.
