“I think yesterday was easier than I thought,” new Left Winger Samuel Morin said following Tuesday’s practice. This was a good way for him to open up to reporters, he continues, “I think I played pretty well yesterday. I think today was a bit harder for me. Conditioning wise, the hardest thing switching wise is conditioning and moving my feet and stuff like that. I didn’t play hockey for so long. Even if you work pretty hard, you need to play games and stuff to get your game shape going, that is a work in progress for me right now, but I am doing some good stuff out there and I think I had some mistakes today. But I did some good stuff.”

Samuel Morin has been converted from defense to left wing. Teams will have to watch over their shoulders when a 6’7 giant is on the ice. Take a run at Claude Giroux why don’t you and see what happens!!! Morin would drag that player around like a rag doll, “I’ve been watching tape of Matt Martin,” Morin said following day 2 of camp, “I watch Matt Martin a lot. Like 30 minutes every day and before I go to bed to see what he’s doing. It’s so efficient and simple. It is kind of so easy, but he is really good at it. He is always in good position, he skates well, and he finishes every check. I ask a lot of questions to my line mates, but there is no one here that has that role.”

Morin continued, “Yeah, yesterday I was with Laughts on the lines, so I asked him a lot of questions. Laughts is a guy that plays all kinds of roles, so he knows what to do. Today I was with TK and Bunnaman so I asked them a lot of questions. But obviously, there is no one here that does what I do. Like you can’t really point a guy that has that role.”

He’s an easy guy to root for. Especially after suffering and rehabbing from these unfortunate injuries. Can he really succeed on the wing? Well that remains to be seen, as he was a north south skater to begin with. Given Morin’s size he was a decent skater, “It’s so simple but he never turns over the puck,” Morin said, “He always puts in behind the D man. I can tell you by watching the tape that when people go in the corner, the D man are the first person on the goal, but the second and third player are just getting annoying and that’s kind of what I need to do. It’s just a work in progress. I’m really trying my best here. I’m fighting for my career and I’m not in the best situation since changing position. I’ve never really played forward, but I am really just trying my best and I am so grateful to be here with my teammates and I’m just enjoying this right now because it’s been a long time. It’s been a long year for me, rehabbing and all that stuff and working really hard. I earned that spot here. I am really happy to just be with my teammates.”

One would be surprised that a highly gifted offensive alumni has become a mentor to the young Morin in none other than Danny Briere. Danny B made a living at torching opposing netminders in the playoffs. He would go down as one of the most clutchest players of this past decade:

“Danny B is great. He is such a good person. The advice he gave me was- like this morning I was watching my game yesterday on tape and when you are a big guy, people notice you right. So, you notice if you stop moving your feet. It is really important for me to always move my feet and stay in movement. That is hard right now, because it is a hard camp conditioning wise. It’s not fun. My legs are burning. My stamina, it’s hard. But with Danny B we work on moving my feet all the time.” – Samuel Morin

The young 25-year-old in Morin is trying to impress the Flyers top brass enough to make the 23 man roster. One thing for certain is he is a work-horse, and always gives his all. He is going back to school sort of speak in terms of watching videos in Matt Martin before he goes to sleep, with the hopes that his future in the NHL can continue with the Flyers in the end Morin is right, “I earned that spot here. I am really happy to just be with my teammates.” He earned that spot with hard work and dedication.
