Dan Vladar has been activated and barring any surprises will start tonight’s game against the Blue Jackets in Columbus. Vladar has been a stud between the pipes this season for the Flyers and his return is a very welcome development.

Kolosov back to Phantoms

With the return of Vladar netminder Aleksei Kolosov has been sent back to the Phantoms. Kolosov was called up by the Flyers when Vladar sustained an injury cutting short his appearance against the Sabres on January 14th.

Kolosov’s latest call up was not the type of calling card one aspires to leave with the big club. To be fair he came to the team during the lowest spot of their season to date. Keep in mind the Flyers were already three games into their six game losing streak before Vladar went down due to injury.

Kolosov appeared in just two games over this latest call up. He came into the January 15th game against the Penguins to relieve Samuel Ersson and logged 37:43 in the net. He allowed 3 goals on 16 shots and was credited with the loss.

On January 17th he was given the start against the Rangers and lasted all of eight minutes and twenty-five seconds. He gave up three goals on the first three shots of the game.

That was the entirety of the time he spent with the Flyers during Vladar’s absence.

The last time Kolosov was called up he appeared in two games at the beginning of November. That call up went much better than this latest one.

He came in to relieve Dan Vladar on November 1st and stopped all seven shots that he faced in that 5-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

He was given the start the following night against Calgary and allowed 2 goals on 21 shots. The Flyers went on to lose that game but you don’t usually hang a 2-1 loss on your goaltender’s shoulders. Kolosov would surely like to be remembered for his appearances in November over the time he spent in Philadelphia this January.

Meanwhile back in Lehigh

So just for the record how did things go for Carson Bjarnason during Kolosov’s absence from the Phantoms? …Not great. It was just not a great stretch for Flyers goaltending in general. Bjarnason who has been having a solid season with the Phantoms went 1-2-0 while Kolosov was up with the Flyers. In one of his starts he allowed 6 goals on 20 shots. The Following game he played just 11:50 and allowed 3 goals on 4 shots.

So a bit of a black cloud hanging over the crease across the board for the Orange and Black in January. Tonight Dan Vladar returns and hopefully it does not take too long for him to get his groove back.
