Joel Farabee underwent surgery in mid June for a disc replacement in cervical region. Joel’s injury occurred during an offseason workout when he began to feel a pitching sensation in his neck while lifting weights. He had missed 19 games last season due an unrelated shoulder injury. With that injury, Joel came back with energy and fierce determination to continue playing.
Farabee along with some other teammates hit the ice early (Three weeks before camp) to partake in team scrimmages and practice. Teammate Scott Laughton had some input after an intrasquad scrimmage, from a quote derived from Sam Carchidi of Philly Hockey Now, “He looked great, looked smooth. It definitely takes some time to get your strength back, and I know he’s been working really hard of the ice. Were looking forward to having him back.” With that being said, Joel is a very important piece to the team as he tallied 34 points last season. He is not shy to shoot the puck at the net.
Joel was expected to return mid October, but this little bit of good news could mean he is ready to come in and play earlier than expected. This is a great sign for the Flyers with Farabee being a crucial piece of the team.
