Brad Shaw took over the Flyers as the Interim Head Coach, following the departure of former Head Coach John Tortorella. Shaw has brought a relaxed, cool culture to the orange and black. The team has responded in a positive way marking 3-1 under Shaw’s direction as a Head Coach.

Shaw was asked yesterday if he would consider being the Flyers coach following the season, “I love working here, and I don’t know if I have to tell Danny, it should be expected,” Brad Shaw said following practice yesterday. “I would not be doing the rope test (If he got the job as Head Coach), but it would be a hard camp.”

“It’s only been three years, but I love my time here,” Shaw continues. “It’s a unique city, I love the inherent pressure the fans put on. I’ve never been booed more than this three years of my life. But I love that, it’s an indicator of what the fans think. It keeps you in check.”

The team has responded well to Shaw. Matvei Michkov has played well (4g,3a in the past four games played), both Travis Konecny and Sean Couturier have played well, Ivan Fedotov who was an emergency goaltender during the last few games of Tortorella’s tenure has a victory. Shaw continues to do well with the defense, while giving the penalty killing duties to Associate Coach Darryl Williams.

“It’s the best job in coaching,” Shaw said. “It’s been great, it’s been a great experience. I think one of the biggest challenges is the substitute teacher role. I do have expectations, I do have a type of game that I think leads to consistent success.”

Of course, it’s not all roses, as the team has been eliminated from the playoffs for the fifth consecutive season, but Shaw is trying to instill a consistent, winning mindset. After all, he is also fighting for a job.
