What a night, what a first game, what a first everything it was for Hayden Hodgson. First NHL point ✅, First goal ✅, First NHL assist ✅.
This 6’2, 212 pound winger really made an imprint in last night’s 5-2 victory against the St. Louis Blues, which happened to be the Flyers first road victory in 2022.
“It’s unbelievable, it’s great. I’m so grateful.” – Hayden Hodgson
Hodgson couldn’t have scripted the night any better. He tallied his first NHL point in just the first period of play, and his night didn’t stop there. He used his big frame to bang bodies, create turnovers, and even potted a goal. Lehigh Valley Phantoms fans know he’s been doing this all year, as Hodgson is tied for the team lead in goals with 18 with Captain Cal O’ Reilly, “I wanted to keep my game simple, and play my game, defensively,” Hodgson said following the game.
Mike Yeo continued, “Pretty good (He said laughing). He brings weight, he will learn. Great start for him.”
What Hodgson does so well is use his size to create scoring chances, while working the cycle. He’s also a not bad skater, as he’s an explosive player off the rush.
Hodgson has developed into an effective complimentary offensive player at the age of 26. He gets to the greasy areas to score, as he finishes off chances in close. His defensive game continues to need some work, but his skating abilities make up for some of his defensive deficiencies.
In reality, Hodgson became the 5th player for the Flyers this season to make their NHL Debut. On one special night, one night, Hodgson registers a multi-point game. The sky is the limit for Hodgson, as he hopes to make an imprint in this recall.
