On July 8th 2022 the Flyers signed Defenseman Tony DeAngelo to a two-year contract worth $10 million.

Tony played 270 Career NHL games between the Tampa Bay Lighting, Arizona Coyotes, New York Rangers and Carolina Hurricanes. Past coaches describe the Defenseman as a very skilled play maker who is very skilled on the power play. The 26-year-old stands at 5’11 and weighs 180 pounds. DeAngelo currently has 34 career goals and 123 assists.

The Defenseman was born in Sewell, New Jersey and started playing little league in Hollydell ice arena in South Jersey. Growing up, he was known for his competitive attitude. In the 2014 NHL Draft, Tampa Bay Lightning selected him in the first round, 19th overall. Tony attended training camp in Tampa, then signed a contract with Tampa’s AHL team, which was very short lived. The defenseman then signed with the Arizona Coyotes where he would play in 39 games, and he netted five goals.

Tony spent four seasons with the New York Rangers where he scored 19 goals over the course of the four seasons he spent with them. Last season with Carolina, Tony posted 10 goals and registered 41 assists. DeAngelo is a feisty defenseman, and he is known for dropping the gloves. He has eight NHL fights on record, and he is not afraid to show his aggressiveness.

DeAngelo is great addition to the Flyers. Despite what you hear online or on other social media outlets, Tony is great player with good spirit. This will hopefully bring a spark to the team that the fans have been missing for awhile.
