Two goals from JVR and solid goaltending lead to tonight’s victory. Solid looking game for a team who needed to get back in the winning column. Brian Elliott got the start tonight over Carter Hart. Let’s get into it.
The Powerplay
The Flyers were gold with the man advantage, and they had the power play clicking tonight with two goals from JVR. They were able to generate some good changes and get the puck to the front of the net and on goal. Anytime the opposing team gives you a power play opportunity, you want to certainly capitalize on that and make the best of it. Good job on the power play tonight.
JVR looking A-Ok
James van Riemsdyk has had a very impressive start to the season. He added two goals with the “tip in” on the Power Play. Something that is not easy to do, but it was a great couple of goals. Very impressive by JVR. He has five goals and two assists in seven games played. He’s off to a strong start and with the team dealing with injuries, JVR will play a big part going forward.
Milestone for “Captain Claude”
On the game in which Claude Giroux passes Bobby Clarke for the most games as Flyers Captain (611), he also adds a few assists tonight, one being a patient play to Nolan Patrick to give the Flyers a 3-2 lead late in the third. A strong game for the longest tenured Captain in Philadelphia. He’s a heck of a player, a leader, and is still contributing anyway he can. Congratulations to Claude Giroux on a wonderful milestone.
