Flyers’ General Manager Danny Briere spoke yesterday about the big trade that shipped two well liked guys in the Flyers locker room, Joel Farabee and Morgan Frost, to the Calgary Flames. So why did this trade happen?
One of the biggest nuggets to Danny Briere’s presser was Briere hinting that they were going to take a look at Andrei Kuzmenko in free agency. Kuzmenko is a sharp shooting Winger, that is a former 30+ goal scorer.
It’s quite obvious they have been watching him for sometime, especially after Calgary’s GM Craig Conroy said they were trying to make a trade for sometime now.
Another big nugget to Briere’s presser was that this trade gives them possibilities for the offseason, in terms of adding, “It cracks the doors open to those possibilities. We aren’t going to spend money for the fun of it.”
This trade freed up cap space in the future, and offers more cap flexibility to add when the orange and black want to. Briere did say they just won’t add a player in the offseason, just to add a player.
It will be interesting to see how all this pans out in the future.
