The Flyers are in the midst of a rebuild, and they have a handful players that are attractive who are on expiring contracts. Some playoff caliber teams will look to obtain players on expiring contracts, with the hope of making that final push of obtaining their ultimate goal of winning the Stanley Cup. Players on expiring contracts for the Flyers are Nick Seeler, Sean Walker, and Marc Staal.

Nick Seeler is an interesting name to toss around. The Flyers will try to re-sign him, as Danny Briere alluded to yesterday he’s an important cog to this unit, “Definitely (when Briere was asked if he can envision him being re-signed). He’s an important piece, he played great. He’s well loved by his teammates. Part of the reason we are having success. I should have named him, Sean Walker. We love what Nick Seeler has been for us,” Briere said. If the Flyers are inclined to bring back a shot blocking machine in Seeler, well that leaves Walker as a name, an attractive name to be moved to acquire assets in the coming weeks as the trade deadline approaches.

One major difference between this regime and the prior regime is a plan, a coordinated plan. It appears that the Flyers will stick to their plan of a rebuild, and they will not be impatient to make a trade. Briere said that the Flyers won’t make a trade unless it makes sense, and they won’t trade just to trade to pacify the fan base. He also said that the Flyers will remain patient, and they won’t trade away assets because of the success they were having this season. Yes, the Flyers do currently sit in the playoff spot, but the long-term vision/outlook is more important than short-term gain., “Not going to be trading, just to make trades, “Briere said emphatically.

“One thing I won’t be assets just to make a run. I won’t be trading a first or second rounder. We are not going to trade assets just to make a playoff run.” – Danny Briere said at his mid-season presser

This is a dawn of a new era, a new era of orange that Flyers fans are not accustomed to. This organization is a patient one now, and they view their players as assets. It’s great to hear Briere not wanting to part ways with assets, unless the trade makes sense. There is no more trading and asset for peanuts, just to appease. Patience is persevering with some younger players, most notably Egor Zamula, Morgan Frost, Tyson Foerster, Noah Cates, and Owen Tippett in some way.
